Do you want to learn how to fight malware? Join GeekPolice Academy!
First topic message reminder :
Spyware, viruses, trojans, adware, and all other bad stuff - learn how to effectively remove threats. If you like to help people, and would like to help other users get their computers clean - then you should do it!
Learning how to fight malware is important, because those who are trained know how to fix a person's computer without damaging it in the process.
The training is steady, but it does take several months to complete (6-9 months). It can be hard from time to time, but those who are willing to research and put good time in will feel rewarded and get the training done.
Note: This is a training to learn how to help other users with their computer problems, not just for yourself. We are not here to help you learn business skills, or personal skills. We want to train you in professional skills on removing malware, so you are able to help other users on the forums. Application submissions that do not say that you would like to help other users, will be automatically denied.

With the large, ever increasing amount of people requesting help, we are in need of more Malware professionals to volunteer their help here. Malware professionals who wish to help out here on GeekPolice, please drop any one of the staff a PM stating that you would like to volunteer here.

You do not need to pay for anything.
For personal use free versions are fine.
All the tools you'll come across in your training are free and you will use these same tools to help other people.

I personally like Avira Anti Vir and have installed it on many machines that never get infected. Including my three at home.
MBAM and HijackThis are on demand scanners so will not conflict with Avira.
Unless you have the paid version of Spyware Doctor I would remove it as it doesn't actually remove anything without you first buying it - my personal opinion so the choice is yours.
What Firewall are you running?

Mcafee/Norton both suck for firewall product, they are just too big for a low end system, and other firewalls like Zonealarm are giving in to the Ask Toolbar....
I recommend Tall Emu's Online Armour

It's very light on the system and doesn't hog your CPU.

Nah, don't waste your money, make use of what you have. It's just for me, personal experience tells me Mcafee stil has several problems they need to sort out.
