Slow

Post by Bill Hernia on 19th May 2009, 7:13 am

Lately I've noticed my computer running slightly slower than usual, I deleted a few programs I thought were causing the problems, but nothing has changed and I no longer know what to do.

There's some startup items we could kill, but you've only made this problem worse and put yourself in potential danger.

When you were uninstalling a few programs, you also uninstalled AVG, which means you now DON'T have an antivirus installed.

This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world.
That's why I want you to install one first!!

* Please install Avira Antivirus: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
This is a free Antivirus.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

I recommend you remove the Java Quick Starter because it's not needed.
To do so, follow these instructions.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Java.
In the Java control panel, open the click the Advanced tab. Click the + in front of Miscellaneous and uncheck the Java Quick Starter box.

See [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for more info.

Next, reboot normally.
Let me know if the problem seem any better now we've stopped some startup items.

Okay, that doesn't matter, what does matter though is installing Avira, did you do that?
