Hello.
Don't worry about that, everyone who run Hijack This on Vista gets that warning.

I strongly recommend you to remove Ask from your computer because it's:

  • Promoting its toolbars on sites targeted to kids.
  • Promoting its toolbars through ads that appear to be part of other companies' sites.
  • Promoting its toolbars through other companies' spyware.
  • Installing without any disclosure whatsoever and without any consent whatsoever.
  • Soliciting installations via "deceptive door openers" that do not accurately describe the offer; failing to affirmatively show a license agreement; linking to a EULA via an off-screen link.
  • Making confusing changes to users' browsers -- increasing Ask's revenues while taking users to pages they didn't intend to visit.
See [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for more info.

If you choose to follow my recommendation then follow these instructions.

  • Click Start >> Control Panel.
  • Under the Programs click Uninstall a Program
  • Highlight the following programs:

    Ask Toolbar
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2

  • Click on the Uninstall/Change button at the top.
Then please find and delete this folder in bold (if present):
C:\Program Files\Ask.com

What problems are you having exactly?

Hello.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SynTPStart] "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPStart.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QPService] "C:\Program Files\HP\QuickPlay\QPService.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QlbCtrl] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Quick Launch Buttons\QlbCtrl.exe" /Start
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hpqSRMon] "C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqSRMon.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Health Check Scheduler] [ProgramFilesFolder]Hewlett-Packard\HP Health Check\HPHC_Scheduler.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hpWirelessAssistant] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Wireless Assistant\HPWAMain.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WAWifiMessage] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Wireless Assistant\WiFiMsg.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UfSeAgnt.exe] "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security\UfSeAgnt.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "C:\Program Files\Hp\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SynTPEnh] "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] "C:\Windows\system32\RUNDLL32.EXE" C:\Windows\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] "C:\Windows\system32\RUNDLL32.EXE" C:\Windows\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [HPAdvisor] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Advisor\HPAdvisor.exe" autoRun
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ehTray.exe] "C:\Windows\ehome\ehTray.exe"

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

I recommend you remove the Java Quick Starter because it's not needed.
To do so, follow these instructions.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Java.
In the Java control panel, open the click the Advanced tab. Click the + in front of Miscellaneous and uncheck the Java Quick Starter box.

See [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for more info.

That should help with the slowness, but the screen blacking out is probably a hardware fault in either the screen itself, or the graphics card.

It's fine, I made a mistake. The Java control panel is only in Java 6 update 7 and onwards.

Not too sure, lets have a look around.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click DDS.scr to run.
  • When complete, two logs will open. Save both of the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

This looks okay. Those items we killed on startup came back, probably blocked by Spy Sweeper, Trend Micro, or the UAC.

Anyway, go to Start, in the search, type in msconfig.
Once found, open msconfig and go to start Startup tab.

In here you will see a big list of items, do not do anything just yet. Each name is the run value, so using my post here:

Untick each I have listed, the values in my post above are shown in the [] brackets.

It should create less stress on the machine at startup if that's what you mean.

No, none of what runs at startup will effect the hardware.

Reboot normally.

That could be something we turned off, turn the items we turned off back on and reboot again.

Not sure about the iTunes issue.

Go to Start. In the search bar, type in cleanmgr and hit enter.
Wait for it to load, then when it does, select everything (by ticking the boxes) and hit okay.

Allow it to run, then see if you have anymore HD space.
