searching for websites directed to results.yahoo.com.

Post by orangeboy on Sat May 09, 2009 10:50 pm

When I am searching for a site on yahoo search box I am given results and then upon clicking on a link my url says [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and then I am re-directed to a completely different site. However when I use google and do the same thing, there are no problems. Please help.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Viewpoint Manager (remove only)
  • Viewpoint Media Player
  • Viewpoint Toolbar

Please download [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and save it to your Desktop. Please double-click GooredFix.exe on your Desktop to run it. Select 2. Fix Goored by typing 2 and pressing Enter. Make sure all instances of Firefox are closed at this point. Type y at the prompt and press Enter again. A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredLog.txt).

Not that, okay, time for new ideas.

Go to Start > Run. In the run box, type in cmd and hit enter.
Are you able to open the command prompt or does the machine freeze?

Hmm, then it has to be a rootkit.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop
Link: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

Note: This tool was posted specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

2. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

  • Leave the script box empty.
  • Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  • Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  • Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will automatically do the following:

  • It will Restart your computer.
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avengerís actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
3. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

Well, there goes the usual suspects.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click DDS.scr to run
  • When complete, two logs will open. Save both of the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

Scratch what I said about none of the usual suspects, it's an older varaint of one known Google hijacker.

Go to Start > Run.
In the Run box, copy and paste this in:

regedit /e C:\look.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\drivers32"

Press enter.
Now look in your C:\ drive and find look.txt.
Open it in Notepad, copy and paste what's inside it back here.
