Please download the current version of HijackThis from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

Hello.
Before doing anything, I want to lift some weight off this machine and uninstall some crap you don't need or want.

  • Open HijackThis.
  • When Hijack This opens, click "Open the Misc Tools section"
  • Then select "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on "Save List..." (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Re: How do I remove cryp_naix-6

Post by Gbear on Fri May 08, 2009 7:24 pm

Removed all of the above. Ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It sound 2 infected items. When I clicked to remove, it created the log file and asked to restart. I clicked restart, so I lost the log file. I have restarted, and am now re-running the program to create a log file. I will post it as soon as it comes up

Thanks for your help.

One thing that I wanted to ask. My wife loves the Jewel Qwest game. We had bought the disk at Walmart and loaded it on the computer. That is where the IWin program was from. Now I see that the Jewel Qwest program will not run. Is there a problem if I add it back? Is that where my problem came from?

Okay, add it back. Smile

I ask my victims to remove iWin because they have been known to use popups (malicious or not) to advertise their games to you.

A quick Google search will show a lot of other people who say the same.

The MBAM log is automatically saved. Open MBAM and go into the LOGS tab. Double click the first log there and see if it's the log you got from the first scan.

Ah, okay, nothing bad.
Still having problems now?

See if Trend Micro still finds this problem, and if it does, can you give me the filename and extension? (badfile.exe for example)

Sure will! Thank you for your help. I am starting the Trend Micro scan now. It normally takes a long time, but I will post what I find or if nothing is found will let you know!

Re: How do I remove cryp_naix-6

Post by Gbear on Fri May 08, 2009 8:27 pm

Darn!

The scan just showed that it found the following:

Incident Status Location
Cryp-Naix-6 None Taken $INSRDIR\IWinGamesHookIE.dll (C:\Program Files..... The rest I can not seem to get to on the screen.

Sounds like my problem has something to do with the IWin program.

I have not reloaded the IWin program yet.

Any ideas? Is the IWin program the problem, Or has a worm or virus worked its way into the IWin program?

Any thoughts on what to do next to remove it?

Thanks

As I explained earlier, iWin have been known to use malicious acts in their software.

If you want to to continue to use their software, your choice, but be aware this may happen again.

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
    Code:

    :filefind
    *IWinGamesHookIE.dll

  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Well, good news either way. The file doesn't exist, or it's located in the iWin folder (file is related to iWin anyway)

Delete these folders in bold if present:
C:\Program Files\iWin
C:\Program Files\iWin Games

The ones that I had started out with Iwin and had other stuff behind them. I ran the virus checker directly on those folders and it said that it found one. I ran it again and it showed up clean. I am trying to recheck the computer with Trend Micro Scan now. I'll let you know the outcome. I am noticing an increase in internet performance Cheesy Grin (sparkly
