Can you open another browser? say Firefox for example? [if you have Firefox installed]

If not, do you have a USB stick and another computer we can use?

Well running DDS on your own saves us time.
If you can't get online and don't have a USB, you will need to put it on a CD.

If you can, write to a CD from the infected machine and transfer it to the other machine.

Re: got a bankerfox.a infection

Hello.

You have an infection called Koobface. It's an infection that spreads through Facebook/Myspace. You need to be careful when surfing social networking sites.

The malware is behind the reason of no internet access. Koobfaces sets a proxy back to local host. It's like a circle, when you try to make a connection, the proxy set sends it straight back, so a connection can't be made.

Before we can do some serious cleaning, we need to restore internet access and remove some un-needed programs.

Please download the current version of HijackThis from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

Okay. Smile

Rename the setup file, doesn't matter what to. Just name it something like fixing.exe, then it will run fine.

Hello.

Please disable Ad-Watch, as it may hinder the removal of some HijackThis entries. You can re-enable it after your computer is clean. Please see here for instructions on how to disable it:

1. Right-click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray (located down by the system clock for most configurations)
2. Choose *Settings* from the dropdown menu
3. Under the *General Settings* tab turn OFF (red x) the option to "Load Ad-Watch at Startup" (if enabled)

4. Click on the *Status* button in the left hand menu
5. Turn OFF (red x) the option for *Regshield*
6. Close that window, then right-click on the Ad-Watch icon shield again down in the system tray next to the clock.
7. Choose *Turn off Ad-Watch* from the drop menu

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:7171
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local;
    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O1 - Hosts: ::1 localhost
    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.65.122 browser-security.microsoft.com
    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.65.122 antiwareprotect.com
O1 - Hosts: 91.212.65.122 [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
    O2 - BHO: BHO - {ABD45510-9B22-41cd-9ACD-8182A2DA7C63} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\iehelper.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: 796525 helper - {E7F15AC4-E0A9-43F0-921B-70DFEA621220} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\796525\796525.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [system tool] C:\WINDOWS\sysguard.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DL32] DL32
    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Remove the Proxy setting in Internet explorer and/or in FireFox.

In IE: Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

In Firefox in Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection > Choose "No Proxy"

Click the apply button and restart that computer in normal mode. <== IMPORTANT!!!

After reboot, you should have your internet access back here. Smile

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Yes, you do. The proxy needs to be fully removed.
Then download, install MBAM. Update the database and run the scan.

Hello.
I'm going to bed now, but once MBAM has done and you removed everything it found, re-run DDS so we have an updated log. (I also want you to post attach.txt)

This way, it saves us time and once I get home tomorrow afternoon, we can pick up where we left off.

Three logs I need to see:
1. MBAM log
2. Updated DDS.txt log
3. Attach.txt log

Didn't see you responded yesterday. Just deleted those programs and the comp is running beautifully! I can't thank you enough! How does the donation thing work? Is it a secure site when you donate?

Yes, we use Paypal.

We need to make a new restore point.

4. Click Yes when you receive the prompt to the turn off System Restore.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. Goofy

1) Please navigate to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates , or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I also recommand the following add-ons for Firefox, they will help keep you safe from malicious scripts or activeX exploits.

4) Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

To help you keep your software updated, please considering using this free software program that will check for program updates.

5) Finally, consider maintaining a firewall. Some good free firewalls are [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], or

A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

If you would take a moment to fill out our feedback form, we would appreciate it.

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. Big Grin
