frostwire removal

Post by feast on 11th April 2009, 9:51 am

hey, not entirly sure if its malware or a virus or whatnot, but i cant seem to completly remove frostwire and its ask firefox tools. i have removed it from the add/remove programs but on startup frostwire attempts to start and give me a message something to the degree of "some components of frostwire have been corrupted or damaged by a bad install, please reinstall frostwwire" also the ask toolbar, that came with frostwire, has changed my default search engine to ask which i dont know how to reverse

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click DDS.scr to run
  • When complete, DDS.txt will open.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

We don't have attach feature.
You have to split it up into more than one post.

Hello.

I strongly recommend you to remove Ask from your computer because it's:

  • Promoting its toolbars on sites targeted to kids.
  • Promoting its toolbars through ads that appear to be part of other companies' sites.
  • Promoting its toolbars through other companies' spyware.
  • Installing without any disclosure whatsoever and without any consent whatsoever.
  • Soliciting installations via "deceptive door openers" that do not accurately describe the offer; failing to affirmatively show a license agreement; linking to a EULA via an off-screen link.
  • Making confusing changes to users' browsers -- increasing Ask's revenues while taking users to pages they didn't intend to visit.
See [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for more info.

If you choose to follow my recommendation then please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Ask Toolbar
Then please find and delete this folder in bold (if present):
C:\Program Files\AskSBar

Please download the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it.
  • Copy the bolded text below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose CopyCrying

    :files
    c:\docume~1\z\applic~1\FrostWire
    c:\program files\FrostWire
    c:\docume~1\z\applic~1\LimeWire
    c:\program files\LimeWire

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste instructions for items to be Moved" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Please post the OTMoveIt log.
