Can't open "My Computer"!

Post by woodbum on Sat Mar 07, 2009 11:59 am

Ok, got a little bug this morning! First of all, Hi guys ;) long time no see.
All right, i opened my machine this morning and wanted to go into Vista ( as i dual boot XP and Vista) and it stays on the openning bar only! So, rebooted and went into safe mode, no problem there, did a little scan with A2-square (as i couldn't install spybot!!!! Evil or enraged ) found cookies only, then, did a scan with CCleaner and cleaned up some registery (did put in back up first, yes) and restarted. Still not openning!

So, open XP and took some times but went on, played around to see if i can find anything but when i try to open "My Computer" folder, NA DA, only have the flashlight going on and nothing is being open!!!!!! I know my wife installes lots of games and she's not really good in removing them or knowing what she's doing!!!!!!! Annoyed or Unimpress
I will remove her stupid games but i can't even go into the "C" to delete the left over!

Where do we start guys?
Here's my Hj Log:

Hello.
I'd like to go deeper using DDS. Run this from the XP boot, because DDS doesn't run on Vista 16bit.

  • Please download DDS by sUBs to your Desktop (Important!!) from one of these locations:
    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3
  • Double click DDS.scr to run
  • When complete, DDS.txt will open.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste DDS.txt back here, I don't need to see attach.txt.

@RealBelahzur - [Prework] - Please PM me if I fail to respond within 24hrs.

Hello.
Lets run SFC, first we have to enable it, because something has disabled it.

  • Now open a new notepad file.
  • Input this into the notepad file:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
    "SFCDisable"=-

  • Save this as fix.reg, save it to your desktop.
  • Double click fix.reg to run it.
  • Select yes to the registry merge prompt.

Go to Start > Run.
In the Run box, type in: sfc /scannow and hit enter.
Note the space betweeen the c and /
After the scan is done, reboot and see if you can access my computer.

@RealBelahzur - [Prework] - Please PM me if I fail to respond within 24hrs.
