Help! Can't get rid of Trojan Viruses

Post by danvruiz on 23rd February 2009, 5:14 pm

Thanks in advance for your help. I have been infected by different trojans that include mydoom, conflictor, heur, ect. Although I was able to delete the majority of the trojans by using A squared, AVG, superantispyware but my computer functions are limited and can't get rid of them. My windows user login has been changed so now I have to type in a password and my windows start and desktop programs have been deleted. I have to run programs through windows task manager and the screen is black. When I try to go into safe mode with networking or regular bootup the internet is really slow and keeps on disconnecting. Here is my log...

Re: Help! Can't get rid of Trojan Viruses

Hello.
Sorry, but this is already a lost cause. Save both of us time and format the machine.

Your dealing with an infection called Virut.
Virut patches legit files, which in this case I can see it has. The only way out is formatting.

See here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Your computer has multiple infections, including a backdoor. A backdoor gives intruders complete control of your computer, logs your keystrokes, steal personal information, etc.

You are strongly advised to do the following:

  • Disconnect the computer from the Internet and from any networked computers until it is cleaned.
  • Back up all your important data except programs. The programs can be reinstalled back from the original disc or from the Net.
  • Call all your banks, financial institutions, credit card companies and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and put a watch on your accounts. If you don't mind the hassle, change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change all your passwords (ISP login password, your email address(es) passwords, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, Amazon, online groups and forums and any other online activities you carry out which require a username and password).

Do NOT change your passwords from this computer as the attacker will be able to get all the new passwords and transaction records.

Due to its backdoor functionality, your computer is very likely to have been compromised and there is no way that it can be trusted again. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be to do a reformat and reinstallation of the operating system (OS). However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your OS and would like me to attempt to clean your machine, I will be happy to do so.

Belahzur,

Thanks for your advice although it is bad news. A question for you...This computer that has the Virut is wired to a modem/ router/ DSL. I have 2 other computers that are connected to this same router via wireless connection. Now should I be worried about these 2 other computers having this virut virus and stealing information?

No, Virut isn't network written.
Although, if you transfer any exe/scr files FROM the infected machine to another, then the other machine will become infected.

That's why I posted that you should disconnect this infected machine from the net.
