Solved Drivers

Post by TeReX on 31st March 2008, 10:29 am

I changed from Windows Millennium Edition to XP Pro. Before upgrading I removed the Wacom Graphire tablet through Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel.

Now I find I that I can’t install the updated driver as the old one is in the driver cache 1386 and the new driver installer tells me I have to take out the old driver before it can go ahead. Can you help?

Let me think

The first thing you should try is to reinstall the old driver and then remove it from within Windows XP Pro. This may be sufficient to resolve the problem. If it isn’t, then you’ll need to look at manually removing the files. The list of files that you need to remove is as follows:

Version 2.x
TABLET.EXE
WINTAB.DLL
WINTAB32.DLL
WACOM.DRV
WACOM.CPL
WACOM.DAT
WACOM.VXD
WTT16.DLL
WACPEN.DRV
OLDMOUSE.DRV
WACOMEXT.DLL

Version 4.x
TABLET.CPL
PENCLASS.SYS
WACMOUX.VXD
TABHOOK.DLL
TABUNST.DLL
TABCP-??.ZNC
WINTAB.DLL
WINTAB32.DLL

To remove these press Start/Search. Click on All Files and Folders and then press the Advanced options and make sure that you place a check mark next to ‘Search System Folders’, ‘Search Hidden Files and Folders’ and ‘Search Subfolders’. Now type the file name in the box one at a time and search your hard drive for it. When found right click on the entry for the file and select Delete.
