Solved How to remove infection from pen drive

Post by coolnitin on 2nd February 2009, 8:36 am

I completely formatted my PC but forgot to format my pen drive. Previously you told me that my PC is infected with "Sinowal" virus and now I know that my pen drive contains 2 infected files:
1- autorun.inf
2- *.exe (dont know the name)

I am afraid if I again insert my pen drive, PC will get infection again.

What to do?

Sorry for late replying Doctor, but my PC is not infected yet and I want to know how to stop infection from a pen drive as I studied that autorun.inf is the file that gets execute whenever we plug the pen drive in USB slot.

This will protect the pen drive

Step 1 - Plug in the pen drive.

Step 2 -
  1. Open My Computer.
  2. Go to Tools > Folder Options.
  3. Select the View tab.
  4. Scroll down to Hidden files and folders.
  5. Select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck (untick) Hide extensions of known file types.
  7. Uncheck (untick) Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).
  8. Click Yes when prompted.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Now find the pen drive, open it as a folder, delete any autorun.inf file that is there.

Step 3 -

Please download Flash_Disinfector from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • First, download it to your desktop.
  • Now double click it to run it and will tell it you what to do when you open it.
  • It will temporarily kill explorer.exe and your desktop will go blank.
  • Let Flash_Disinfector do it's job and it will restart explorer.exe for you.
  • It will make a dummy autorun.inf in the root of every drive.
  • You can now delete Flash_Disinfector.exe.

The pen drive is now protected.
