Why is it trying to extract from i386?
Please download sp3 exe file from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en

Install that file.

Are you able to do it through the Windows Update console?
I'm just wondering why it wants to use files in i386, that's mainly just a files backup folder.

Did you transfer the file from one computer to another?

Was your installation of Windows a clean installtion?

Did you use any download managers to download SP3? Try to re-download it and see what happens, if it doesn't work try this:

Boot into safe mode by pressing F8 repeatedly at boot up. Install SP3
