Solved W32.Tidserv & Backdoor.Tidserv!inf Help please

Post by photo36 on 3rd January 2009, 1:57 pm

It had to happen, after 8 years on the internet I eventually got a virus. Had to happen one day and it is 100% my fault. Lapse in concentration. Im using a windows based pc with xp sp3 and IE for the internet. Norton 2009 caught the 2 virus and advised me to do a restart to completely remove the threats. After restart C drive was not available and gave this message when trying to access it. C:\resycled\boot.com is not a valid Win32 application I have followed advice on another thread and have removed files from windows and the registry which gave me access to my C drive but Norton will not start and IE would not connect to the net. I have started the PC in safe mode with network connections which has allowed me to get on the net and Im using the infected PC now. I have downloaded HiJackThis and run a scan. My main problem is that I have an external 500GB eSATA Seagate drive connected through a PCI card and also had a 1GB pendrive pluged into a USB slot which both seem to contain portions of the virus so I have removed / turned off these devices. Should I have them on before perfoming the HJT scan. I can bin the pendrive but the Seagate has all my photos and music on it. I am prepared to reformat my C drive if needed but the Seagate is priceless. I have another 80GB Lacie USB external drive which was not turned on at the time so I assume it will be clean. I could use this to back up files. Thanks in advance for any help, this is my first infection and I am annoyed. :-)

Solved Re: W32.Tidserv & Backdoor.Tidserv!inf Help please

Post by Belahzur on 3rd January 2009, 3:08 pm

Hello.
Lets run a rootkit scan and delete that resycled.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop
Link: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+CCrying

Files to delete:
C:\autorun.inf

Folders to delete:
C:\resycled

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

  • Under "Input script here:", paste in the script from the quote box above.
  • Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  • Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  • Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will automatically do the following:

  • It will Restart your computer.
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avengers actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
4. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

Hi. I have run Avenger. On restart got a message in a windows pop up box. In the blue bit it said. Windows - No Disk and in the message field said- Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c - along the bottom was Cancel / Try Again / Continue. I clicked cancel. PC has started OK, so far so good. I have not turned on the Seagate drive yet. This would be my G drive.

Solved Re: W32.Tidserv & Backdoor.Tidserv!inf Help please

Post by Belahzur on 3rd January 2009, 3:41 pm

That error message was probably caused by the rootkit, but it's disabled now, so it shouldn't happen again.
Please turn on the G drive, and whatever else drives you have, cause they are all infected and need to be cleaned.

  • Download combofix from here, use the top links - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Please disable your local AV (Anti-virus) by right clicking it's icon in the tray, and exit it.
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Yeah, combofix should clean them all, then we can run a program that will prevent it from returning.

ooh it is nice to see all of my icons in the system tray again.
Folder RECYCLER is still on the G drive with a recycle bin image inside it at 85bytes. I cannot delete this so should I run avenger again on this drive?

Solved Re: W32.Tidserv & Backdoor.Tidserv!inf Help please

Post by Belahzur on 3rd January 2009, 4:24 pm

Hello.
Don't try deleting "Recycler", that is the legit folder, the malware is called "resycled", there is an s instead of the c, don't mistake them otherwise it could cause problems.
We just need to repair some things.

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

KILLALL::

AWF::
c:\program files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\bak\ccApp.exe
c:\program files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\bak\realsched.exe
c:\program files\MouseWare\system\bak\EM_EXEC.EXE
c:\program files\CA\eTrust PestPatrol\bak\PPActiveDetection.exe
c:\program files\QUICKENW\bak\QAGENT.EXE
c:\program files\QuickTime\bak\qttask.exe
c:\program files\Keymaestro\Multimedia Keyboard\bak\MMKeybd.exe
c:\program files\iTunes\bak\iTunesHelper.exe
c:\program files\D-Tools\bak\daemon.exe

Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\V]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{38a4d306-b2d6-11dc-ab4e-00e0988595d9}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{5395a160-2a47-11d9-a4a7-806d6172696f}]

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:

This will open combofix.exe again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run, it may want to reboot after it's done. Post the resulting log back here.

Hello.
Looks good now, what problems remain?

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
  • Select the first option where it says "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    - Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
Please make sure the new version of Java is installed before you run JavaRa.

Please download JavaRa from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • First, unzip it.
  • Then run JavaRa.
  • Select English from the drop down menu and press Select.
  • This will open JavaRa.
  • Press Remove older versions
  • Press yes to the prompt.
  • It will make a log file of what it's removed.
  • Copy and paste the log back here.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. Goofy

1) Please navigate to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates , or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:

I also recommand the following add-ons for Firefox, they will help keep you safe from malicious scripts or activeX exploits.

4) Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

To help you keep your software updated, please considering using this free software program that will check for program updates.

5) Finally, consider maintaining a firewall. Some good free firewalls are [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], or

Thanks again Belahzur. I have run several of the recommended programs. Also used a registry cleaner and registry defrag, also defraged C drive. Took about 5Gb of dross off the hard drive and uninstalled items of software that haven't been used for a long time. PC in running sweet as a nut now. I dropped a couple of coins in to the Hampshire Air Ambulance tin this morning when I bought the newspaper, hope you approve. Don't take this personally but I hope never to have to 'speak' to you again. LOL
Thank You!
