Hello.
Can you post the MBAM log if you ran it?

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O4 - Global Startup: reico.bat

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

That has shifted the weight, lets have a look around.

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<< will be maximized) and info.txt (<< will be minimized)

Solved Re: Cousin's PC

Post by Belahzur on Mon Dec 29, 2008 3:25 pm

Hello.
Log looks good, just two things we need to do to make sure this machine doesn't get infected again.

First, the log showed some malware on what appears to be an external drive, and we need to remove the mountpoint.

  • Now open a new notepad file.
  • Input this into the notepad file:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{60178fd8-5541-11dd-a4e6-bdea0a6a6674}]

  • Save this as fix.reg, save it to your desktop.
  • Double click fix.reg to run it.
  • Select yes to the registry merge prompt.

Second, we need to update Adobe reader and flash player.
Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX
  • Adobe Reader 6.0

Please update these by doing the following.
Please visit this website to download and install flash player 10.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Once you updated flash player:

Please visit this website to download and install Adobe reader 9.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

What problems remain?

Solved Re: Cousin's PC

Post by Belahzur on Mon Dec 29, 2008 3:59 pm

Okay. We need to unhide files and folders.

To Unhide Files and folders:
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders heading "Show hidden files and folders".
[*]Check the "Show hidden files and folders" option.
[*]Hit the "Apply To All Folders" option.
[*]Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
[/LIST]

Follow each of these paths in Windows Explorer and see if a desktop.ini file is present in the folders in bold:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

If any Desktop.ini file is present there, open it with notepad and see what's inside it.
If any of them contain:
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787

Then delete the desktop.ini
