Hello.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

I see you have Viewpoint Manager, this is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Read this article: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Additional info: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I suggest you remove the program now.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
  • Viewpoint Toolbar

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

Solved Re: Backdoor.Tidserv!inf

Post by Belahzur on 24th December 2008, 10:15 pm

Looking better.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2066B6EF-F34E-4C2F-90EB-10FAF7157651} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlJBTkHa.dll
    O21 - SSODL: ieModule - {A3DF1545-77C4-4073-A14B-24CE0FAF09B7} - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DLLs\ieModule.dll
    O21 - SSODL: InternetConnection - {AFCC5664-C923-41E3-B3D1-EEC56B109775} - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DLLs\lgcnntarkm.dll

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Delete these three files in bold:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mlJBTkHa.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DLLs\ieModule.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\DLLs\lgcnntarkm.dll

  • Download combofix from here, use the top links - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will then get this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

I downloaded combofix, but have not run it yet because i cant delete ieModule.dll or lgcnntarkm.dll. It says access denied, it may be write-protected or in use.

Hello.

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

KILLALL::

Driver::
pfsvgae

File::
c:\windows\system32\TDSSdxcp.dll
c:\windows\system32\gctlohjk.exe

Folder::
c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:

This will open combofix.exe again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run, it may want to reboot after it's done. Post the resulting log back here.

Hello.
Looks good now, what problems remain?

Delete this folder in bold:
C:\Qoobox

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
  • Select the first option where it says "Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 11".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    - Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    - J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u11-windows-i586-p.exe that you downloaded to install the newest version.
Please make sure the new version of Java is installed before you run JavaRa.

Please download JavaRa from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • First, unzip it.
  • Then run JavaRa.
  • Select English from the drop down menu and press Select.
  • This will open JavaRa.
  • Press Remove older versions
  • Press yes to the prompt.
  • It will make a log file of what it's removed.
  • Copy and paste the log back here.

Finished reporting.

Still seems a little slow to respond, internet takes a little longer to connect than before. But still is vastly improved from before. Also Norton does not open when clicked on.

The Norton still won't run when clicked on, I have to go into the Services(local) menu and switch the Symantec Event Manager to Start. Only then will Live Update and Norton 360 open up. Everything else seems to be back to normal.

Ah, so it's just a service.
A service can be started easily.

But, the service name you gave, is that the exact name? because we need the exact name for the service to work.

Here are the names of the two services Symantec Core LC and Symantec Event Manager. Once I go into the Services menu, and switch them to start, Norton 360 and Live Update will run when clicked on.

Hello.
Press Start > Run
Type this in:
services.msc
Press enter.

This opens the service manager, locate the two services (it's in alphabetical order, so they are easy to find)

Do you have "stopped" by them under the "status" column?
If so, right click the two services and select "Start"

No.
There is another easier option.
Ditch Norton, and use another AV.

Let me know if you want to go for that.

1) [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
-Free anti-virus software for Windows.
-Detects and removes more than 50,000 viruses. Free support.
2) [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
-Anti-virus program for Windows.
-The home edition is freeware for noncommercial user.
3) [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
- Free edition of the AVG anti-virus program for Windows.
- Available for single computer use for home and non commercial use.

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts.
