Solved Windows Update.

Post by restrung on Sun Dec 21, 2008 2:19 pm

I recently tried installing a new windows update but it always fails (ive tried it about 3 times now, and restarted between each try). At around 47% it stops and then it says

"Some updates were not installed.
Failed: 1 Update
Error(s) found:
Code 80072EE2 Windows Update encountered an unknown error."

I googled the code and it brought me here: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/dca75593-6b39-4563-ba62-35de98ea98ea1033.mspx

I don't know how to unblock addresses though, and I am pretty sure it should already work. I turned the firewall off in kaspersky and the only one that is on is the main one. In the main firewall I can only add a new port or program, I see no place to allow those links...

Code 80072EE2 is actually the same as ERROR_INTERNET_TIMEOUT, which is most probably caused by:

1. Third party security software.
2. Incorrect Internet Explorer setting (IE).
3. Proxy being used is not set correctly.

But let's try the steps I listed below first.

Right click Kaspersky on the try icon >> Pause protection.

If it doesn't work try to install the latest Windows Update Agent 3.0 x86
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=100334

The above download is if you are using a 32 bit of Vista. Wait, you're using Vista when this occurs right?

Install through command prompt with /wuforce switch.
so it will be like this windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe /wuforce

If Docs post doesn't work, try this.

Press Start > Run.
Type in cmd, then press enter.

At the DOS prompt execute the following commands, one by one.
Press the enter key after each entry.

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

Type Exit press enter to return the operating mode.

Reboot normally.

Does it work now?
