Solved Autorun.inf and MS-dos.com

Post by Fuzzer on Sun Dec 14, 2008 10:51 am

Hi,
I've been infected by autorun.inf for the second time. First time was fairly easy, just used Malwarebytes to remove it but this time it's a bit more complicated. I can find the infected files with Malwarebytes but not remove them. I've also tried following Trend Micros guide to remove all infected entries from the registry but they keep on coming back. For now I've replaced the autorun.inf and MS-dos.com files with folders (with the same name) so I at least can access my files. The processes Global.exe, system.exe and svchost.exe are malicious and can't be shut down.

I hope you guys can help me with this.

Thanks

Solved Re: Autorun.inf and MS-dos.com

Post by Belahzur on Sun Dec 14, 2008 1:31 pm

Hello.
Bad news.

Your computer has multiple infections, including a backdoor. A backdoor gives intruders complete control of your computer, logs your keystrokes, steal personal information, etc.

You are strongly advised to do the following:

  • Disconnect the computer from the Internet and from any networked computers until it is cleaned.
  • Back up all your important data except programs. The programs can be reinstalled back from the original disc or from the Net.
  • Call all your banks, financial institutions, credit card companies and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and put a watch on your accounts. If you don't mind the hassle, change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change all your passwords (ISP login password, your email address(es) passwords, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, Amazon, online groups and forums and any other online activities you carry out which require a username and password).

Do NOT change your passwords from this computer as the attacker will be able to get all the new passwords and transaction records.

Due to its backdoor functionality, your computer is very likely to have been compromised and there is no way that it can be trusted again. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be to do a reformat and reinstallation of the operating system (OS). However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your OS and would like me to attempt to clean your machine, I will be happy to do so.

I don't mind doing a reformat, although, I have three external devices that are infected as well and would like to clean them up if possible. Since I keep all my important data on them, reformatting is not an issue however if I don't clean them up my system will most likely be infected again.

Can you help me with this?

Okay, lets clean the external drives, then you can format.

Nazz - will PM you.
====

Plug in ALL your external drives.

1. Download this file - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts, but select NO when asked to install the recovery console.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Split it up into parts if you have to, or upload it to mediafire.com Smile

Solved Re: Autorun.inf and MS-dos.com

Post by Belahzur on Sun Dec 14, 2008 3:46 pm

Hello.
Keep all your external drives plugged in.

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

KILLALL::

Driver::
MEMSWEEP2

File::
C:\MS-DOS.com
G:\MS-DOS.com
c:\windows\system32\dllcache\svchost.exe
c:\windows\system32\38.tmp

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\G]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{4bce15fa-baf6-11dd-b505-0015af2db559}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{4bce1600-baf6-11dd-b505-db188cb953e7}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{4bce1601-baf6-11dd-b505-db188cb953e7}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\MEMSWEEP2]

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:

This will open combofix.exe again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run, it may want to reboot after it's done. Post the resulting log back here.

Then once CF has done it's second run, run this to remove and protect against the autorun virus returning.

Please download Flash_Disinfector from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • First, download it to your desktop.
  • Now double click it to run it and will tell it you what to do when you open it.
  • It will temporarily kill explorer.exe and your desktop will go blank.
  • Let Flash_Disinfector do it's job and it will restart explorer.exe for you.
  • It will make a dummy autorun.inf in the root of every drive.
  • You can now delete Flash_Disinfector.exe.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - Please PM me if I fail to respond within 24hrs.

Solved Re: Autorun.inf and MS-dos.com

Post by Fuzzer on Sun Dec 14, 2008 4:50 pm

My external drives seems to be fine now unless you can find any reminding malicious files in the log? If not, I'm gonna do a scan on all my drives with Malwarebytes and if it's clean I'll reformat my computer.

I can't thank you enough for all your help!
