Solved Trojan.Zlob.G Malware

Post by Ace28 on Thu Dec 11, 2008 6:11 am

I got the TrojanZlob.G on Dell Latitude laptop (Win XP Pro SP3). Wife said laptop just turned off and started getting the Trojan alert after. AVG (free), Spysweeper, Spydoctor and Avast did not detect. Spyhunter3 detected it including Perfect Defender 2009. Trojan is klnxv19819115.exe. Appreciate the help to fix and eliminate the malware.

Here's the Hijackthis.log file:

Solved Re: Trojan.Zlob.G Malware

Post by Belahzur on Thu Dec 11, 2008 12:06 pm

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here, use the top links - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - Please PM me if I fail to respond within 24hrs.

Hello.
We need to be able to access notepad, are you able to use a USB thumb drive from another machine and copy and paste it over or something?

Yes . I have been using a thumb drive to download the programs on my desktop and load it to the infected laptop since the trojan is blocking Internet access on the laptop. After running OTMOveIt3, the laptop Win main screen icons disappeared (blank background screen picture) - so I can't access any program . Tried Alt-tab, nothing. I need to re-boot to have access on laptop programs. Only the OTMoveIt3 program is running now with a blank screen in the background.

Just wondering: will restoring the laptop using Windows restore to the last previous restore point before the Trojan infection fix it (assuming it can do so)? Or will that not restore the register?

It might do, but it might also bring the virus back.

Can I delete those 2 files although I could not see any c:\documents and settings\Daniella\Application Data" sub-dir last night. I can try although I have to re-boot. I can possibly go into the register and delete those 2 HKEY ... lines - is that what OTMoveIt is trying to do? Not sure about how to delete the Commands items (purity, etc.)

Solved Re: Trojan.Zlob.G Malware

Post by Belahzur on Thu Dec 11, 2008 6:21 pm

No, lets do this another way.

  • Now open a new notepad file.
  • Input this into the notepad file:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "WinDNN"=-
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\mchInjDrv]

  • Save this as fix.reg, save it to your desktop.
  • Double click fix.reg to run it.
  • Select yes to the registry merge prompt.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop
Link: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+CCrying

Files to delete:
c:\documents and settings\Daniella\Application Data\Google\klnxv19819115.exe
c:\documents and settings\Daniella\Application Data\Google\dfxovl.dll

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

  • Under "Input script here:", paste in the script from the quote box above.
  • Leave the ticked box "Scan for rootkit" ticked.
  • Then tick "Disable any rootkits found"
  • Now click on the Execute to begin execution of the script.
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

The Avenger will automatically do the following:

  • It will Restart your computer.
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

I need to reboot the infected laptop - is that okay? I don't have access to Notepad, USB drives, hard drive, etc. It's stuck. BTW, can I uninstall the 2 antivirus I loaded last night and just leave Spysweeper?

Getting error running fix.reg. "The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files within the registry editor".
Initially excluded the first line "Windows Registry Editor Version 5" and the " sign; got error. Added the " and first line, same result. I have the file stored on C:\ drive

No more warning alert alert . I can pull WIndows update and reboot.
I am running AVG (free), Spysweeper and ZoneAlarm firewall. Is that enough? Wonder how that Trojan got in there.

Thanks a million for your help and time.

One more thing left.

We need to make a new restore point.

To turn off System Restore, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Click the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
4. Click Yes when you receive the prompt to the turn off System Restore.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. Goofy

1) Please navigate to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates , or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
