Solved Spyware.ISpyNow Infection - Please Help- HiJackThis Log

Post by LadySmith on 4th December 2008, 4:49 pm

My sister-in-law's computer is badly infected. I know it has the ISpyNow (Spyware.ISpynow). I did also see something called runhh6110411.exe at one time (which I have read is associated with the ISpyNow).

If we do a google search and then click on one of the results, instead of taking you to the website, it redirects numerous times, finally landing on various random websites. If you click on the same search again, it will go to even a different site -- not the website you wanted it to go to.

It would not download the Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware. So, I put it on CD and put it on the computer, but then it wouldn't install it. After reading about it, I changed the names of them (changed to gotcha...lol) and it did install them, but they still won't run. It did the same thing with HiJack This. But, finally she got the HiJack This to install and sent me the log. I'm posting it below for anyone to possibly help me with this. I would greatly appreciate it!

Also, I need to figure out how to get the Anti-spywares to work.

Any help greatly appreciated! I'm about to go to her house and try to work on it some more, so any help while I'm there would be very helpful because I've only got a few hours available to be over there working on this today.

Hello LadySmith.
A few hours is all we should need if you stay with me on this while you there.
Now lets get started.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: mxlivemedia browser enhancer - {8B776473-FBEE-179F-80D4-F502125FD1C3} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\rrrsyanqjmcvl.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [qljvtapeibbr] C:\WINDOWS\System32\regsvr32.exe /s "C:\WINDOWS\system32\rrrsyanqjmcvl.dll"
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: dbgmgr - ifcmgr32.dll (file missing)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: drmvndde - C:\WINDOWS\system32\drmvndde.dll (file missing)
O23 - Service: My Web Search Service (MyWebSearchService) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\2.bin\mwssvc.exe (file missing)

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Delete these files in bold:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbwblrpsbqfxez.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mshtml90.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rrrsyanqjmcvl.dll

  • Download combofix from here, use the top links - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Thanks for replying. It will not let me delete these files.

The window says "Error deleting file or folder -- Cannot delete. Make sure disk is not full or write-protected or that the file is not currently in use."

I did fix what you suggested on HiJackThis though and I will be downloading the ComboFix in the meantime.

Ah, probably hooked into explorer again.
Use combofix, that will take them down. Smile

When I try either of the top links on her computer, the browser "fails to connect" (one of the many things that's been happening with this spyware or whatever it is.

Can I download the program on my laptop and put it on a CD or something and then put it on her computer?

Hello.
Yes, you can put it on CD, but before you write it to a CD, rename it to combo-fix.exe to get around the malware.

OK, I did the Combo-Fix (from CD). But, the notepad log is blank. I can't seem to find it at C:\combofix.txt either. I mean, I see the program and all, but don't see a .txt file.

But, I did see it deleting the C:\WINDOWS\system32\kbwblrpsbqfxez.dll and the

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rrrsyanqjmcvl.dll

I went in and manually checked for these files and those two were gone and I deleted the C:\WINDOWS\system32\mshtml90.dll

Hello.
We'll see what exists in a minute.
But first, CF saves an imcomplete log here:
C:\combofix\combofix.txt

See if there's anything in that text file. If there isn't, lets use this.

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<< will be maximized) and info.txt (<< will be minimized)

I didn't find the ComboFix.txt so I did the RSIT as you suggested. I'll have to do multiple post to continue it because it keeps telling me it's too big.

The log.txt is below:

Solved Re: Spyware.ISpyNow Infection - Please Help- HiJackThis Log

Post by Belahzur on 4th December 2008, 11:13 pm

Okay, no malware showing in the log. Since you already have MBAM on your system, we'll use that.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

I'm running it now in normal mode, but do I need to do it in safe mode?

Solved Re: Spyware.ISpyNow Infection - Please Help- HiJackThis Log

OK, sorry it took me so long to update. I'm back home now. I think I got her computer fixed with your help!! I told her to browse on it some tonight and tomorrow and such to let me know for sure. I browsed around and everything seemed ok.

I did everything you suggested (including updating Java
Smile ). I ran the Malwarebytes and it detected some things (including some trogan) and then said a few things couldn't be deleted until a restart, so I did that. Then, I ran it again and it found nothing.

So, a BIG
Thank You! Belahzur! Hopefully her computer is fixed!
