Trouble right off the bat!

Post by Chris Himmelheber XP on Fri Nov 28, 2008 10:55 pm

I've been trying to get to HijackThis so that I can download it, but my IE on a Vista computer keeps shutting down before I ever get to this website. I've got that spyware.ispynow, and I'm kinda stuck. Any recommendations?

Does the browser randomly close, or only when you try to download Hijack This?

@Doctor Inferno - Please move this to malware removal.

Randomly, and usually before the first web page comes up. It also defaults (rather than to my homepage) to an official Microsoft-looking notice that says that Insecure Internet Activity has been identified and asking if I want to download a solution. If I click "yes" IE closes. If I click "no" it asks if I really want to browse without firewall coverage. If I try to type the geekpolice address in the address bar, IE closes.

So i'm guessing your using Firefox, or some other browser? Smile
Please give this a try.

Please download SilentRunners from here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it. If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run. When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop. Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see.

No. As I mentioned, I'm using IE (Internet Explorer) on a Vista computer.

Well do you have a USB memory stick and another computer you can use to download tools on? without tools, there isn't much I can do to stop the browser from closing.
