Solved Help! Trojans!

Post by FaithCassita on Sun Nov 23, 2008 4:55 am

Please help, I believe my system is infected with multiple trojans that I can't get rid of. I've tried to do research but am coming to a deadend. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Solved Re: Help! Trojans!

Post by Belahzur on Sun Nov 23, 2008 12:48 pm

Hello.

  • Download combofix from here, use the top links - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe.
  • Follow the prompts. NOTE:
  • ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.
***It's strongly recommended to have the Recovery Console installed before doing any malware removal.***

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will automatically proceed with its scan.

  • The Recovery Console provides a recovery/repair mode should a problem occur during a Combofix run.

  • Allow ComboFix to download the Recovery Console.
  • Accept the End-User License Agreement.
  • The Recovery Console will be installed.
  • You will this next prompt that asks if you want to continue the malware scan, select yes

  • Allow combofix to run
  • Post C:\combofix.txt back here.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - Please PM me if I fail to respond within 24hrs.

Solved Re: Help! Trojans!

Post by Belahzur on Sun Nov 23, 2008 3:37 pm

How is the machine? Just two leftovers I want you to delete.

Now open a new notepad file.
Input this into the notepad file:

Folder::
c:\documents and settings\Yung Cobbi\Application Data\Viewpoint
c:\documents and settings\Yung Cobbi\SmitfraudFix

Save this as CFScript.txt, save it to your desktop also.
Then drag and drop CFScript.txt into combofix as seen below:

This will open combofix.exe again, agree to it's terms and allow it to run, it may want to reboot after it's done. Post the resulting log back here.

Solved Re: Help! Trojans!

Post by Belahzur on Sun Nov 23, 2008 3:54 pm

Looks good from here.

Delete these two folders in red:
c:\program files\WildTangent
c:\Qoobox
Empty your recycle bin after.

We need to create a new restore point.

To turn off System Restore, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Click the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
4. Click Yes when you receive the prompt to the turn off System Restore.

Now we need to make a new restore point.
To turn on System Restore, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the System Restore tab.
3. Click the Turn off System Restore check box (To turn on System Restore), and then click OK.

Post back once you've done that.

Solved Re: Help! Trojans!

Post by Belahzur on Sun Nov 23, 2008 4:01 pm

Everything looks great. Smile
Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. Goofy

1) Please navigate to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and download all the "critical updates" for Windows. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates , or get into the habit of checking for Windows updates regularly. I cannot stress enough how important this is.

2) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

4) Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

5) Finally, consider maintaining a firewall. Some good free firewalls are [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], or

A tutorial on understanding and using firewalls may be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. Big Grin

Solved Re: Help! Trojans!

Post by FaithCassita on Sun Nov 23, 2008 4:05 pm

Thank you so much, I really really appreciate it.Last weekend I got infected with antivirus2009, stayed up all night, working for like 5 hrs straight, researching and deleting the viruses, and it would seem like I got rid of it for awhile, then these crazy little trojans would sneak up on me. I had a BUNCH of them, I just needed help getting rid of the last few that seemed so stubborn. Thank u so much Belahzur! Thank You! My Buddy

Solved Re: Help! Trojans!

Post by FaithCassita on Sun Nov 23, 2008 4:15 pm

One more question....

When my system got infected with antivirus 2009 is disabled my windows automatic updates and I couldn't turn it back on manually. For days it was disabled and I couldn't do anything to get it back on. Would you by any chance know the virus/trojan/malware/anything that caused that? After I did the combofix it's back on and working fine. But not having it on scared me to death! I looked everywhere to get in enabled again, and it seems like combofix did it for me! Cheesy Grin (sparkly

Solved Re: Help! Trojans!

Post by FaithCassita on Sun Nov 23, 2008 4:32 pm

oh, that is just not right!

PPL who create these viruses, trojans, malware, all that nasty junk are just sick!

Anyways, again,THANK YOU! If I have anymore problems I'll definately come back here instead of trying it on my own, especially if it's a nasty one like antivirus2009. Luckily I was able to get through that without my actions making it worse. But I honestly was in the dark trying to fix it, at one point I was so overwhelmed I was thinking of taking it in to a repair shop and having them restore my laptop to factory settings and starting from scratch. Yeah, I'll leave this stuff to someone who knows what they're doing, like you! Thanks again, I GREATLY appreciate it!
