Solved Cannot update antivirus, freezing... Help please!!!

Hi,

A have been having a few problems with my computer... First of all (2 days ago) it kept freezing after about 20 mins of being switched on, then yesterday it would not boot up, windows loaded up, but it just showed a blank desktop. It nows boots up fine (and doesn't freeze), however I can't update my antivirus software, it says it can't connect to the server, and I cannot access any antivirus websites. But I can browse the rest of the internet with no trouble.
As I can't update my antivirus and antispyware software, I can't figure out what the problem is, and can't remove it.

Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem is?

What AV are you using? Nod32 had some problems alittle while ago with their update server, not sure if they fixed it yet.

Are you experiencing any other problems [popups, virus warnings, etc] other than the AV problem?

I was using AVG but couldn't connect to their update server, I managed to get a copy of Sophos but can't connect to their update server. I'm also using Ad-Aware antispyware, and also can't connect to this update server. Or any antivirus websites, when I try to go to them it either says "The page cannot be displayed..." or it redirects me to a search engine.

Can you post a Hijack This log in the Malware Removal Support section?

Please download the current version of HijackThis from The links provided here.

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.
