Change user name on computer (windows 8.1)

Post by silverneedle on Wed 06 Nov 2013, 1:43 am

Hi, I want to change the username on my computer. I've gone into control panel and changed the name in there, but if I open a DOS command prompt It's still the original name.

Anybody know how I change it completely??

Thanks

You'll have to reboot and login with the new username or else the old name will remain because you're still signed into the old profile. By the way, how do I change my avatar to a picture?

When you say reboot do you mean wipe the computer and start again?

Ah yeh, I wanted to do it without actually setting another account up. I changed the name of the account that I'm on but it didn't change the name in the cmd prompt and stuff...

Maybe I'll just have to set another user up and transfer the docs over.

Cheers Nazz -I have done that though, and although I sign into the account as the name that I wanted if I open a cmd window the old user name is in there.
