How about trying another Ethernet cable? Alternately, plug that cable into another computer.

Yes, that sometimes suggest that you may not have to correct type of Ethernet cable.

There are two types of RJ-45 Ethernet cables:

Crossover
Patch

When a person thinks of a RJ-45 Ethernet cable they are thinking of a patch cable.

A patch cable would be what a standard user would use to connect their computer to their router or into an Ethernet port wired into their home.

However there is another kind, the crossover cable, which is used to directly connect two computers together, two hubs together, and sometimes more than one router together.

Also, you might want to check and see if your router itself has DHCP enabled.

Never underestimate the power of Pie.
