Windows Update error 80070002

Post by Flamebo on Tue Aug 21, 2012 3:05 pm

Hi
http://www.GeekPolice.net/u50612 (Gabethebabe) recently helped me to remove a autorun virus. If he is available for Operating system help it might speed up the process.

I've tried to do the generic solution without luck:
"If you receive Windows Update error 80070002 while checking for updates, you need to remove the temporary update files that Windows uses to identify updates for your computer. To remove the temporary files, stop the Windows Update service, delete the temporary update files, restart the Windows Update service, and then try to check for Windows updates again."

This looks like a solution:

No clue where to find the correct "NAME NOT FOUND" entry with Sysinternals Process Monitor tool.

Did you received any Error while running that tool?
Have you choose the Aggressive mode? If not choose the aggressive mode and then run it one more time.

Please follow the steps below and provide the information required:
Open Run(press the windows key on the keyboard + r) --> type msinfo32 --> let us know the OS Name, Version, System Type.

Try to follow the below steps in here:

Do not see an option for Aggressive mode.
