Solved Page Cannot Be Displayed!

Post by Sir $wat on 20th August 2008, 1:40 am

I have a major problem with my internet that I believed is caused by a few viruses. When surfing the net, on numerous occasions I have to Refresh my page because it does not load. Currently I'm hardly getting to use the internet. I did a scan with Avast and found these infections:
1. win32.hidewnd
2. win32.generic - w
3. win32.generic - v

It cleaned them {so it said} but apparently whenever I do a scan again I find these same suckers.

This is my log file. Please advise me on what to do. I could not get to do the online scan because of the problem I have.

Looks good.
What problems remain?

Please copy and paste the following text in the quote to Notepad. Save it as "All Files" and name it FixServices.bat. Please save it on your desktop.

@echo off
sc stop "RVStarter_Lerex"
sc stop "SRVStarter_nerw"
sc delete "RVStarter_Lerex"
sc delete "SRVStarter_nerw"
exit
Double click FixServices.bat. A window will open and close. This is normal.

I see Comodo firewall, that could be your problem, if your security settings are too high, it causes problems.
I don't know how to lower myself, never used Comodo, see if you can find a way to lower it/temp disable it, see if your internet connection improves.

Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:

  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • In the Window that opens, select your platform and language, check the "agree" box, and click Continue.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.

Not really, I just saw an out of date version of Java in your log, and just wanted you to update it.

Let me know if your internet connection improves if you switch firewalls.

What Dialup service are you using? Is it NetZero?
Have you tried any other solutions posted on other forums to your malware problems before posting here? If so, please provide a link to the topics where you recieved the help.
Can any other applications besides your web browser connect to the internet?

Ok, you stated that MIRC pops up sometimes at startup?

Yes, please remove it. Problems caused by MIRC are rair but the do exist.
You can remove it through add and remove programs in the control panel.

Where you having internet connection problems before you requested help from the other forum? I wouldnt agree with some of there methods, and I believe that they might have caused your problems.

Please reply soon.

It ends to fast to get to read everything.

Post by Doctor Inferno on 26th August 2008, 7:52 am

First I need you to download the following tools & save them to your Desktop.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Deckard's System Scanner from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Run Deckard's System Scanner:
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double click on the dss.exe file on your Desktop and follow the prompts.
  • Scans will run, and 2 text files will open in Notepad.
  • Close both of the text files.
These files are C:\Deckard\System Scanner\main.txt & extra.txt.
I will need you to copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of
  • main.txt
  • extra.txt

in your next reply.

The text from these files may exceed the maximum post length for this forum, and may need to be sent over 2 or more posts. Please ensure all text is posted.

Solved Re: Page Cannot Be Displayed!

Post by Doctor Inferno on 27th August 2008, 7:54 am

Oh crap.

Ok, never mind that. Have you ran MBAM? Next,

‡‡Please print out or copy this page to Notepad since you cannot have any browsers open while you are fixing this and try to follow it as closely as possible taking it step by step.

‡‡Update your Antivirus program.

‡‡Please download Spybot Search and Destroy install it and update the program.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

‡‡Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop. Ignore the AntiVirus warnings and download it anyway because you need to run it. Wait on installation and running.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

‡‡Download CleanUp! and install it. Wait on installation and running.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

‡‡Please download following program CWSHREDDER. Wait on installation and running.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

‡‡Download about:Buster and save it to your desktop. When it has finished downloading, unzip the folder to your desktop as well. You should now be left with an aboutbuster folder on your desktop.Wait on installation and running.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

‡‡I would suggest though that you download CCleaner. It is a great little program that I use every time I close my browser to get rid of temporary files. I usually just run the cleaner part every time I'm done with the browser.During the install there will be check marks for checking for updates that part I do not use and also to install a tool bar for yahoo or something. Make sure those are unchecked unless you want another tool bar, It is a very safe program and it is free.(CCleaner Quick Setup: Go to > Options > Advanced > Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours" for cleaning malware. files!)

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

_____________________________________________________________

‡‡Now make sure no files are hidden. To do this:
For XP go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading:
* select Show hidden files and folders.
For Vista go to the Control Panel->Appearance and Personalization
Under the Folder Options, click Show Hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.
You may change the above options back after your log is clean.

‡‡Turn off system restore.

Steps to turn off System Restore for XP:
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.
3. Click to select the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click to select the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box.
4. Click OK.
5. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm that you want to turn off System Restore:
You have chosen to turn off System Restore. If you continue, all existing restore points will be deleted, and you will not be able to track or undo changes to your computer.
After a few moments, the System Properties dialog box closes.
Steps to turn off System Restore for Vista:
1. Control Panel -> System Maintenance -> Back Up and Restore Center
2. On the right column, click on "create a restore point or change settings" (this requires administrator's password if set)
3. Uncheck all drives.
4. Click OK.
5. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm that you want to turn off System Restore:
You have chosen to turn off System Restore. If you continue, all existing restore points will be deleted, and you will not be able to track or undo changes to your computer.
After a few moments, the System Properties dialog box closes.

‡‡Do all steps below in safe mode except for at the end when you generate a new HiJackThis log.

‡‡Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

1) Restart your computer

2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8 (Repeatedly).

3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear

4) Use the up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.

‡‡Run your Antivirus and do a full scan remember this is all in safe mode.

‡‡Run Spybot Search and Destroy and do a full scan remember this is all in safe mode.

‡‡Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:

*Click "Options..."

*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"

*Only Check the following for now:

-Empty Recycle Bins

-Delete Cookies

-Delete Prefetch Files

-Clean up All Users

*Uncheck the following:

-Delete Newsgroup cache

-Delete Newsgroup Subscriptions

*Press the Temporary Files Tab and check.

-Scan drives for files matching

Click OK

Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

Note: CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup or MOVE THEM out of the Temp folder before running CleanUp! If you have a 64 bit Operating System do NOT run Cleanup and let me know as we will use another utility.

‡‡Install and run CWSHREDDER

Close all browser windows, open cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" and let it run.

‡‡Double-click on the AbouBuster.exe icon.

Click Begin scan. Close when completed.

It is advised that you run the AbouBuster twice in a row to make sure you get all the infections.

Click the "Issues" button.

Click the "Scan For Issues" button.

Click the "Fix Selected Issues" button.

Click the "Fix All Selected Issues" button.

Click "OK"

Click "Close" when done.

1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.
3. Click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box.

After a few moments, the System Properties dialog box closes.

To create a new restore point, click on Start – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools and then select System Restore.

In the System Restore wizard, select Create a restore point and click the Next button.
