BSOD viahduaa.sys

Post by soleruler on 20th January 2012, 12:04 pm

Hi

My newish computer was previously having a lot of BSODs and I ran some scans and it turned out I had a rootkit infection. GeekPolice cleared this up and I put in extra security. Everything ran well for a couple of weeks but it has started happening again but cannot find infection. My daughter said it happened twice yesterday when on a particular programme (Seriff MoviePlus starter edition) so I went on today and happened again.

BSOD error: viahd.sys-Address A9122754 gase at A9077000, Datestamp 4ca62726. Could only find my dump filefrom today, all other dump files are pre-rootkit. Link for minidump file below.

(FYI I ran a chkdsk and it came up clear and am currently in process of Hot CPU tester, both were suggestions for BSOD problems in the GeekPolice book I downloaded)

Thanks in anticipation...Soleruler

What PC are you using? Post the specs. It seems that the BSOD is being caused by the sound driver. I would suggest you got to the motherboard manufacturer website and download the latest Audio driver (VIA HD Audio)

Have you checked for an updated driver?

Download and install Speccy if you need help getting the specs of your PC.

Hi I ran Speccy and also Driver Detective alltho I think they are one and the same and the audio driver was kisted as up to date.

These were the drivers listed as out of date:
Keyboard and mouse, monitor, Intel(R) 82801 PCI Bridge 244E (whatever that is) and a few USB devices - some of which are no longer used.

However Speccy and other such places are asking for payment - can these driver updates be downloadeed FOC? Thanks

You should be able to download the drivers for free from the mobo manufacturer site.

Hi Sorry I have not come back to you, but have not had a BSOD recently until this week when my daughter used the Seriff progamme again. I am going to try removing and re-installing the programme to see if that helps - the BSOD only occurs when she quits the programme, not while she uses it- it is really odd - but it does not happen at any other time.

If this does not work I will get back to you. Thanks.

Hi

Well I reinstalled and computer crashed again when I went into it! Grr

I have the installation CD that came with the computer but there are hyndreds of files and very confusing. I went into drivers, then audio and the ones that relate to the viahddua are 8 notepad files, one security catalogue, one viahddu.sys which the computer says it cannot open as it is a system device driver and one that says viaud with 3 building blocks over it which wont respond if I try to open it, nothing happens. When I did the driver check it said myaudio driver was up to date though.

Bit confused any more suggestions?

Thank you TOK3n
