Internet Options "Not Responding"

Post by uripadees on Wed Jan 18, 2012 12:40 am

Every time I try and use Internet Options, either by using the tools in IE8 or in the control panel of the start program, I can open it but when I try and change someting and click "ok" it doesn't do anything and when I try and cancle or close it all of the windows go blank and at the top it says "Not Responding". I then have to use the Task Manager to end the program. I have XP/sp3. Does this mean I will have to reinstall Windows XP again to solve this problem?

Hi uripadees,
Would you like to give me HijackThis Log file ? I think you have some unwanted programs.

Hi,
Navigate to Start --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs if present.

  • MyWebSearch
  • Ask.com or ASK
We have to use HijackThis again, please Run it.

  • Click on "Do a system scan only" button.
  • Please, be careful, check the following lines in the check box near each of them :
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.bigseekpro.com/solidyoutube/{F32DCC40-653F-4ABA-A7B5-BD12A85BEBFD}

  • Now press "Fix Checked" button. Restart your computer if needed!

Also, do this step too, we have to stop one unwanted service. Please open Notepad and copy code from bellow.

Code:
@echo
off
sc stop 2jbarsvc
sc delete 2jbarsvc
exit
Save it to your desktop as File name: service.bat
Save as type: All Files

Once done, double click service.bat to run it. A command window will open briefly, then close.
This is quite normal. When the command window has closed, you may delete service.bat and restart your computer.

Please download TFCby OldTimer to your Desktop. Download from HERE.

  • Double click on TFC.exe on your desktop to Run it.
  • If you forgot to close all windows, this utility will do it for you. So I recommend that you manually close them all and Save.
  • If you do not have anything important running, feel free to click the Start button.
  • The process will begin.
  • It is very important not to stop the program in performing its obligations!
  • After cleaning, the program should restart(reboot) your computer. If it doesn't, please manually reboot the machine.

Important! Let me know if you're able to enter Internet Options. If you are not, than I'll have to move you to Virus,Spyware & Malware Removal forum.

Try this method :

  • Click Start.
  • Click Run
  • Type"inetcpl.cpl" in the run box
  • Hit Enter

It will open the "Internet Option" window.

If you're still not able to run it, please visit link bellow to Reset your Internet Explorer.

Please Run FixIt from link bellow :
http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9646978

If you still have probem, try opening Internet Options via Explorer but without addons, I just want to check if some of addons causing problem.
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer 8
(No Add-ons)

If not, would you accept procedure to reinstall Internet Explorer 8 ? It might be corrupted.

I ran the FixIt and that didn't work. I opened IE8 and disabled all the add-on and that didn't work either. The one question I have is if it doesn't work using IE8 or going through the control panel, how would reinstalling IE8 get both to work? And yes, I will accept procedures to reinstall.

You should know that Internet Options are one part of Internet Explorer. It is possible that corrupted file of Internet Explorer, caused by some malicious software or any other kind of malware, is responsible for "Not responding" message you got.

After last step, please run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and do a "Full Scan".

If you still have the same problem, please open new post in Virus, Spyware & Malware Removal and post your issue.

Well I ran Malwarebytes and nothing showed up and I deleated everthin from CCleaner. Still not working. So, will reinstalling IE8 solve the problem or should I reinstall Windows XP? If I post to Virus, Spyware & Malware Removal should I refer them to this post first?

Okay, please open new post in Virus, Spyware & Malware Removal. Yes, you can refer them to this post.

We can not uninstall IE8 because you already updated your Windows to SP3, if we remove SP3 you'll be able to uninstall it. But, lets check did you infected first.
