need a hard drive replacement

Post by blueyze on 29th December 2011, 4:07 am

I have an old desktop that I am fixing up for my grandma. It needs new hard drive. The one it had in it is a Western Digital 250GB 7200RPM SATA-300 8MB P/N WD2500JS-60NCB1. What can I get to replace this? To buy an exact replacement is @ $90. I would like something cheaper if possible.

Thanks...

Because of the floods in Thailand, there is now a hard drive shortage. Western Digial was hit the worst from what I've read. With the shortage, hard drives prices have gone up significantly.

I few months ago I bought a 1 TB drive for $50. Recently I bought a similar drive but with 1/2 the storage for $90, almost twice the price I paid a couple of months earlier.

If you wait a couple of months, you may see prices begin to come back down.

You don't need an exact replacement. You need a SATA 3.5" drive.
See what they have at Tiger Direct.
