System Fix virus

Post by Yashmeee on Wed Dec 21, 2011 2:07 pm

Dear GeekPolice,

Last week my laptop got infected by the System Fix virus. Windows kept popping up telling me that my hard drive was broken and it needed to be scanned etc.

I was suspicious, so I did the following things, however System Fix is still on my computer: Suspect

1. Started my user account (which is not the administrator) in Safe mode with Networking
2. Used Rkill to stop the popups
3. Used TDSS Killer
4. Ran MBAM (which I already had installed). I've done both full and quick scans, I've run it as administrator and done it normally, I've updated it too, but it only found 1 infected file which it then deleted. However System Fix is still here!
5. Used Unhide.exe which didn't work (probably because the virus hasn't gone yet....

Please could you help me? Thanks.

Here are the logs which you have asked me to post on my first query post:

I was in the middle of doing the aswMBR.exe when my computer crashed and a blue screen appeared. I've restarted but I'm too afraid to do the aswMBR.exe again..... Shocking Whoa

Hopefully this is enough information!

Thank you in advance,

Yashmeee :smile2:

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Hello, thanks for replying.

As I said in my post, I actually already have MBAM installed on my computer and have run many scans already. I updated it yesterday too by running it as an administrator. I will however do another quick scan and post the log here.

Hello.

Please download ComboFix from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Rename ComboFix.exe to commy.exe before you save it to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools A guide to do this can be found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
  • Click Start then copy paste the following command into the search box & hit enter: "%userprofile%\desktop\commy.exe" /stepdel
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. This will not install in Vista. Just continue scanning, and skip the console install.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the contents of C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Re: System Fix virus

Post by Yashmeee on Sat Dec 24, 2011 12:53 pm

I have downloaded ComboFix and tried to disable Avira Antivir (which is my security programme) but it's not letting me disable it as the icon on the Start bar has disappeared. I started to run ComboFix but it told me that Antivir is not disabled so I cancelled it.
What should I do next?

Thank you for all your help, especially as it's Christmas Eve Smile

OK, I have restarted my computer in Normal Mode and have run another MBAM quick scan. Yet again it found nothing. I will re-try the ComboFix now

Re: System Fix virus

Hello.

  1. Close any open browsers.
  2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
  3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
    Code:

    FCopy::
    c:\windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\keyboard.inf_da7e599e\kbdclass.sys | c:\windows\System32\drivers\kbdclass.sys

    Folder::
    c:\users\Madeleine\AppData\Roaming\Agypda
    c:\users\Madeleine\AppData\Roaming\Wuq
  4. Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

  5. Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
  6. When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt
  7. Please post the contents of the log in your next reply.

I have tried to run this scanner; however my Windows Explorer says "Your security setting do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls installed on your computer. This page may not be displayed correctly. Click here for options.

Congratulations!! Your PC is all clean! ;D

To uninstall ComboFix

  • Click the Start button. Click Run. For Vista: type in Run in the Start search, and click on Run in the results pane.
  • In the field, type in ComboFix /uninstall

(Note: Make sure there's a space between the word ComboFix and the forward-slash.)

  • Then, press Enter, or click OK.
  • This will uninstall ComboFix, delete its folders and files, hides System files and folders, and resets System Restore.

=========

Please run OTL.exe.

  • Copy the commands with file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [emptyflash]
    [clearallrestorepoints]
    [reboot]

    Return to OTL.exe, right click in the "Custom Scans/Fixes" window (under the light green bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Run Fix button.
  • A fix log in Notepad will appear. Copy the contents of the fix log to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTL.exe

If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

======

Remove OTL:

To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created do the following:
Double click OTL.exe.

  • Click the CleanUp button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes.

Note: If any tool, file or folder (belonging to the program we have used) hasn't been deleted, please delete it manually.
=======

Download [URL="http://screen317.changelog.fr/SecurityCheck.exe"]Security Check[/URL] by screen317 and save it to your Desktop.

  • Double-click Security Check.exe to start the application
  • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Note: if a security program requests permission from dig.exe to access the Internet, allow it to do so.
=======

There are many things you can do to keep this from happening again. You can think of a computer like a car. It requires basic maintenance to keep in tip top shape and ready to go. Would you drive your car 100,000 miles without changing the oil? The same principle applies here.

For some helpful tips regarding why you were infected in the first place, what you can do to keep this from happening again, and routine basic maintenance you should be performing on your PC to keep it running, you may wish to review the following threads:

Re: System Fix virus

When I try and unistall ComboFix it says "Windows cannot find 'ComboFix' make sure you have spelt it correctly and try again." Indifferent or Blank

I can see ComboFix on my desktop and it is called "ComboFix.exe" so I tried that but it still didn't work. I also tried to unistall it via the control panel but it wasn't on my list of installed programmes.

Thank you for all your help so far, and I am over the moon that my computer is clean. I just need a little bit more help getting rid of Combo Fix!

Thanks again!

Please download Unhide by Grinler from [URL="http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/unhide.exe"]here[/URL]

Save it to your desktop and double click Unhide.exe to run it

Has that resolved the hidden files issue?
