First time visitor

Greetings everyone, just saying hi and to see if i can get a little help with a problem i am experiencing with my Acer Aspire 5517 Notebook with windows 7 OS. Bought my laptop over 1.5 years ago, and had no problems until last week, when i noticed it been loading up programs slower than usual. So i decided to set the laptop back to factory settings and give it a fresh start again, did the Alt/F10 thingy. Selected the Restore to Factory settings tab, and it was running. At 73% into the recovery, i receive this message:Restore failed - Error code = 1117 (The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.)I ran this process for about a million times, and got the same message every time at 73% into the restore process, and my laptop refuse to even let me in now. So am essentially locked out of my laptop, all because i tried to restore it back to factory settings. Contacted acer, and they want me to send them $199 + tax with my laptop so they can fix it, and I don't have that kind of money right now. I am in Ontario, Canada, and I contacted Best Buy and the Geek Squad there, and they hinted they might be able to fix it for half that price.

Am just here trying to see if i can get a little help if there is anyway around Acer or Best Buy. I had a back up disc, but have searched and searched and can't find it anywhere, as that is what am essentially would be paying Acer for.

Any help or advise would greatly appreciated, and i would be glad to make a small donation here if the help or advise solve my problem. Thank you.
