Hard Drive Diagnotic virus is preventing access to desktop

Post by logosystems on Fri 04 Mar 2011, 6:15 am

HELP! I have a dell with windows xp that has the Hard Drive Diagnostic virus and I cannot access my desktop. I've tried starting the computer nomal, last known good configuration, and all safemode configurations, all to no avail. I always end up in what appears to be safe mode and I can't get past the windows boot failure and disk diagnostics windows. There is nothing on my desktop. Can anyone provide the steps needed to get back to normal? Thanks!

Hello.

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

I can't access anything on my desktop. It's as though the virus has wiped it clean. The fake diagnostic windows are the only thing showing. ????

Open the Task Manager via ctrl/alt/del. Go to the "Applications" tab, and press "New Task..."

In the open field, type in explorer.exe and hit the OK button.

Does your Desktop load now?
