I Don't know why

Post by AnotherGuy on Thu 10 Feb 2011, 7:11 am

I was told to post here so i am.

My laptop is no longer working properly and can't get past the loading screen, current, last working configuration and the safe modes all fail because of a registry error. Its corrupt or missing according to what the BSOD says, I haven't been able to see it properly yet.
The laptop came pre-installed and doesn't have a CD/DVD drive so I don't know what I can do to fix this.
It was working yesterday was shut off because no one was using it and when it was turned back on it could no longer load past the windows loading screen. The only thing that was put on it recently was Spybot S&D.

Hi,

Does the machine have USB ports? You may be in quite a lot of trouble here.

Yes it has usb ports and according to the boot menu it has a usb cd drive or something. Also has 2 sd card slots.

Don't know if it will help at all but

Hi AnotherGuy,

OTLPE on a Flash Drive:

IMPORTANT:
You will need a flash drive with a size of 512 Mb or bigger. Make sure that you do not leave anything important on the flash drive, as all data on it will be deleted during the following steps.

    • Download OTLPEStd.exe from one of the following links and save it to your Desktop: mirror1 or mirror2
    • Download eeepcfr.zip from the following link and save it to your Desktop: the mirror
    • Finally, if you do not have a file archiver like 7-zip or Winrar installed, please download 7-zip from the following link and install it: the mirror

  • Once you have 7-zip installed, decompress OTLPEStd.exe by rightclicking on the folder and choosing the options shown in the picture below. Please use a dedicated folder, for example OTLPE, on your Desktop
  • Open the folder OTLPEStd which will be created in the same location as OTLPEStd.exe and right-click OTLPE_New_Std.iso. Select 7-Zip and from the submenu select Extract files... and extract the content onto your Desktop in a OTLPE folder:
  • Please also decompress eeepcfr to your systemroot (usually C:\).
  • Empty the flash drive you want to install OTLPE on.
  • Go to C:\eeecpfr and double-click usb_prep8.cmd to launch it.
  • Press any key when asked to in the black window that opens.
  • As indicated in the image, make sure you have selected the correct flash drive, before proceeding.
For Drive Label: type in OTLPE.
Under Source Path to built BartPE/WinPE Files click ... and select the folder OTLPE that you created on your Desktop.
    Finally check Enable File Copy.
  • Click on Start, accept the disclaimers and wait for the program to finish.

  • Your bootable flash drive should now be ready!

    Thank you for the responses
I got onto the laptop and saw that all the files seem intact, as far as I could tell, but i couldn't run any scans and load any registry information do to
Registry Access Error, ret = 032
    and later
Registry Access Error, ret = 999
I have no idea what they means so I shut down the laptop after a bit.

Could you tell me what to do and what programs to use once on the laptop to try and repair this problem or at least be able to scan with the programs inside.
I was also wondering if there was a way to access the admin tools/privileges on the hard drive so I could change some of the blue screen settings, it is not saving error reports to the Minidump folder.

And I found the log files for SpyBot S&D and was wondering if this log report shows if something might have been removed/blocked that shouldn't of.

I also got two back-up registry lists from the folders on the hard drive but I haven't tried to do anything with them yet cause I have no idea how to safely change registry entries or if i should use them at all

    Hi,

Are you able to access the internet from the OTLPE flash drive?

No I can't, at least not on a wireless connection. I can't get the wireless adapter to start up. I'll try a direct connection to the router later but i don't normally use that on the laptop.

The internet is not working either way.

I found the Acer Erecovery hidden comand, ALT+F10 on startup, but the only option avalible is restore to factory default, I don't want to use this option till I have moved most of my data. I'm working on this.
I've been going through the files on my hard drive and found backup information from avg, the restore points after updates and the spybot registry information. But Erecovery won't use it.

Windows Registry Recovery program is able to work when accessing System, Security, and SAM information but will freeze completely when I try to access software, so I think the main problem is there.

Are you able to get to your documents from OTLPE? That way, the things you absolutely need will be backed up to something (be it an external or CD's) and you can use the recovery partition to restore the machine
