Blue Screen

Post by Lazilion on Thu Jan 20, 2011 8:11 pm

I recently bought a new computer and had to install all the drivers and windows by myself. A few error codes emerged as I was installing windows such as bootmgr is missing but I overcome those problems and ended up installing windows anyway. The major problem that has emerged now is that in occasional intervals the computer seems to reboot for no reason but claim to be windows service exception and something about page error. These claims are actually titles when the blue screen appears and so I was hoping that anyone could help me with this problem and all help is well appreciated.

Thank You

Hi,

Please download BlueScreenVew
Unzip the downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit > Select All.
Go File > Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

Hi,

Did you install recently any drivers or changed any position on your hardware?

Try the following:
  • Restart the pc
  • Press F8 continuously untill you are prompted to a black page
  • Choose Last Known Good Configuration

If that doesn't work try this:
  • Go to Start>Run
  • Type in Chkdsk /r Note the space between k and /
  • Click Enter. You will be asked to do this on the reboot, so press Y. If it doesn't reboot, do it manually.
  • Do not close your pc untill the process is complete.

Try these and reply back.

The last known configuration command doesn't work. Other than that when Chkdsk /r is typed into run a black screen appears and disappears immediately, and the computer doesn't respond in any way. Anything else I can do to fix this problem?

Yes, I have in fact installed new drivers for the computer. But out of the drivers I believe that it is the graphics card that is causing the problem as there are occasional notifications detailing that this specific driver has recovered from a problem. So if this driver is the problem should I download a different software to use in conjunction with the nvidia gtx460 graphics card or should i try to install and reinstall the same software.

Hi,

Uninstall your graphics card drivers and install them back. If that doesn't solve the problem, uninstall all your drivers and install them back. If that doesn't solve the problem either, we shall make a repair.

Hi,

You must be very cautious with the drivers which you install because some faulty driver can cause your system damage.

Make sure you have the same service pack as the windows xp cd.
To repair Windows:

  • Press F2 or delete, whatever makes your way to the bios, select as 1st boot device the CD-DVD-ROM. Then save and exit. The pc will restart.
  • The pc will boot from cd and you will be prompt to a blue screen where it will begin loading Windows XP Setup. Don't press anything, let it load.
  • When the loading is over you will be asked to choose for set up windows xp, repair windows xp and quit setup. You must press ENTER not REPAIR
  • Press F8 on the agreement
  • When you see C: partition press R and windows will start to repair.
  • Follow the procedure as it goes from there.

Note: Have your registration key handy

Hi,

Before we proceed on repairing try this one too. It's our last card before proceeding on the repair:
  • Press Start>Run>type 'sfc /scannow' without the quotes(') and then press enter.
  • Do not interrupt in the procedure. This command will scan the integrity of the protected system files and then will repair if any problems are found.

There were apparently no problems detected through windows repair so I restarted the computer. The computer still experiences unexpected crashes with the blue screen popping up.

Hi,

The problem causing your bsod's are the drivers you installed.

So:
  • Make a restore point, so that if anything goes wrong, we can roll back
  • Go Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Device Manger>Click on every + you see and tell me if you see any yellow exclamation mark.

Reply back so we can proceed

i hadn't executed the proper repair before and I attempted to use the windows upgrade repair method but every time the process would be interrupted by the blue screen. So instead I have proceeded with the next step and well there are no yellow exclamation marks on the screen. The list of devices are shown and nothing else.

Hi,

If my memory serves me right, you've done a start-up repair. So we must make a REPAIR now.
Try this:Windows 7

If this doesn't work, then I'm sorry but the only solution left is format and a clean install of windows again.
