iaStor.sys Problem on New Windows 7 Home Premium Laptop

Post by LeeBob on Thu 06 Jan 2011, 1:38 am

Hi there. I am hoping someone here can assist me. I just purchased a new Acer Aspire Laptop for my wife. It is running Windows 7 Home Premium. In an effort to set-up my wife's laptop with certain software programs I believe I have encountered a malware issue.

After trying to run an application the computer suddenly restarted. After which point the BSOD would appear at each subsequent re-start identifying the iaStor.sys issue. Being that it was a new laptop with no personal files yet saved to the hard disk I performed a Windows recovery with recovery discs, restoring to factory default. After completion I was able to set-up Windows for first use, but encountered the BSOD prior to the desktop ever loading. I have since been able to re-start in Safe Mode with Command Prompt, all other modes result in BSOD. In reading other forums it appears I may have an issue with my MBR and therefore have been suggested to run MBRCHECK.exe. Likewise sufferers of this issue have also suggested running tdsskiller.exe.

I am conducting all searches from my laptop. Remember I can only access the infected laptop's Windows via Safe Mode with Command Prompt. Should I try to run MBRCHECK.exe? If so, how can I run it from a USB Flash Drive or CD? Are there other fixes I should use?

I thank you for your help in advance.

Hello.

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.
