Windows will not boot

Post by megatron on Sun 05 Dec 2010, 5:50 am

I am running windows 7 home OS. The OS will not boot when I turn on the computer and it takes me to the system repair screen. Then it attempts to repair the errors, which are not stated and is unable to complete the task. The last step is to shutdown the computer. I tried booting into safe mode and it also will not work. It takes me back to the system repair screen. At the end of system repair the diagnosis and repair details state: "Startup repair has tried several times but still cannot determine the cause of the problem."

Hi and welcome to GeekPolice.net!

I suggest you to go again to Recovery Tools screen, and click on Command Prompt. Follow steps inside and type next command and press Enter :

sfc /scannow

It states: "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart windows and run sfc again." I restarted and still the same message. What to do next?

Ok, please type next command in Command Prompt :

CHKDSK /f

If you get any message, choose Y as Yes and press Enter. This command might take a long time if you have large Hard Disc.

Won't run either. Says:" the type of the file system is ntfs. Cannot kick current drive. Windows cannot run disk checking in this volume because it is write protected." Any other suggestions?

Hi,
Do you have Laptop or PC ?

Would you like to reset BIOS settings to default by taking battery out from your PC motherboard ?
If you have laptop, go to BIOS and choose "Load Optimized Defaults" > Save and exit from Bios.

I also suggest you to try this command, it should fix bad parts of your Hard Disc, and bottom command should fix Boot file:
chkdsk /r
After that, i suggest you to go to Windows 7 Recovery Tools window, and choose Startup Repair, it should work after that.

You'll not lose any files.
