No Internet Access

Post by lainieball on 8th November 2010, 3:51 am

Our wired router went out in a storm the other night. We have 3 computers. Mine is Windows Vista, one is Windows 7 HP 32 bit, one is Windows 7 HP 64 bit. Mine is next to the router and modem, so I unhooked the old router and tossed it and hooked directly up to the modem (Motorola SB5101U) to check it. It worked just fine. So for several days, we shared the internet on my computer. Well, yesterday, we bought a new wired router (Netgear GS105).

My Windows Vista computer is connected just fine, but the other 2 Windows 7's show "no internet access". They won't even ping any websites at all.

They are both new and came with Windows 7 already installed. The 64 bit is Alienware (thru Dell) and the other one is a Dell Vostro. I have been researching this problem for two days now. We tried connecting the 32 bit directly to the modem, but still not connecting. I manage to get them somewhat on the network (not fully)

I have tried almost everything I have read on several forums. Can't get them on the internet. This problem is really pissing me off. I was thinking about upgrading to Windows 7 on my computer, but now not so much!

I have tried the troubleshooter several times, tried shutting everything down and rebooting one at a time, tried ipconfig/release & renew. ipconfig/all shows the two Windows 7 computers have no default gateway or DNS server anymore.

Please help. I know this problem has been addressed before, but nothing is working for me!

i have a suggestion for you to try. go back into command prompt with administrator privileges on each computer that is not working and type this in
netsh winsock reset
let me know if that helps you.
