Exterminate It

Post by csprince on 7th September 2010, 7:49 pm

Greetings all - Has anyone purchased Exterminate It? Is this a reliable product? I was having problems with My Web Search virus and purchased it but have not gotten an activation code.

Read HERE and make your own mind up.
My Web Search is very easy to remove and will not cost you a penny. Malwarebytes free version will remove it completely from your system. You are still in better hands by visiting the Malware removal section and asking advice there.....

Don't mind if I step in, and comment too.

They have this description on their website:

Exterminate It! antimalware extremely effective against active malware / rootkit infection. We are trying to help every customer. If we cannot help - we provide immediate refund. Check our reputation on the following websites: Verisign Trusted Seal, SiteAdvisor, Norton SafeWeb, HpHosts.
1st Question for them: Why do you have to *try* to help every customer? What happen to just helping them? There is no try. Either help, or don't help.

2nd Question: If they thought of customers correctly, they would not need to give refunds. So why offer refunds?

3rd Question: Why do they say check their reputation, when they know they have a bad reputation to begin with?

Malwarebytes Researcher, MysteryFCM, posted a topic about Exterminate-It, and an employee commented on the thread: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s=&showtopic=5928&view=findpost&p=25719

In his/her comment, they said: "I registered here just to make you sure that we are not producing rogue antispyware product."

Who needs to "make sure they are not producing rogue software"? Why even question yourself for your company?

Prevx thinks ExterminateIt.exe is infected: http://www.prevx.com/filenames/1284738397264589682-X1/EXTERMINATEIT.EXE.html - which is based on heuristics/behavior most of the time.

Overall, their reputation is somewhat frightening. So, choose as you please.

I've never even heard of it until now. After reading all that I have to agree I don't trust it. McAfee Site Advisor doesn't detect the rogue properly(from 2008 and still safe)while all reviews are from people who may trust almost anything.Sad tearing

I kinda guess you never read the reviews correctly, it may have 29 good ones, but it also had 18 baddies. That convinced me that the McAfee green tick wasn`t worth diddly squat. That is why I pointed the OP to Malwarebytes, that definitely deals with "My Web Search" or better still the Malware removal forum...

All those green ratings on McAfee SA could be fake, but who knows.

It really cannot be considered rogue, because it does not explicitly enforce the need to buy a higher version, does not have any exaggerated advertising, and it does not do harm to the computer.

The only problems I see are that it fails to detect most current threats, and it has a little too many false positives.

Overall, I would not recommend it, but I will not say it is a bad program.

I no longer recommend AVG, because of its behavior, however, I cannot say it is a bad program, either.

Nope. But if a category for "bloated and useless security" it would fit right in. Awesome (sparkly)

Thanks for the advise. I guess I could have been more patient but the next day I downloaded Exterminate It. I'll report back if I have any problems with it. It removed the virus and so far everything is running smoothly.

I bought Exterminate it! and it did clear the viruses. Later I had to restore to an earlier date to clear some adware that Exterminate it! would not remove. That cleared the adware but deactivated Exterminate it!. Now I cannot reactivate Exterminate it! as it thinks that I am trying to install a second copy. I have tried unsuccessfully for a month to get a response from the 'Help' tickets but get no response at all. I am just ignored.

The 'Refund' is also a con, you are just sent to the 'Raise a Ticket' and ignored. The programme is fine as long as nothing goes wrong, but don't expect help or a refund - in my experience - you're not going to get it!

Thanks for sharing your experience. This review should help people make informed decisions. There are many more highly effective antivirus and anti-malware products, which are much better than this product.

Thanks Dr. Jay, so good to have a quick response. Whilst I do hope it helps someone, I would like some action from Exterminate It! before I try to exterminate them.

You're welcome... if you paid for it, don't stop until you get a refund, even if you have to escalate it to Digital River My Commerce, which is likely the payment authenticator used for the purchase, correct?

If so, please contact them there: https://www.mycommerce.com/support.html

Explain the entire problem and tell them no one from Curio Laboratories (Exterminate It! makers) will help you.
