Computer infected

Post by jest574 on 18th August 2010, 1:32 am

My brothers computer is infected and he can't access the internet or the files in his contro panel. Basically, he has no access at all to any files. The error messages are: wuauclt.exe, hpqste08.exe, bankerfox.a, ytdd.exe. The virus wants him to download a program to fix this and I have advised him not to. Since he can't access his computer, I am askiing for your help so I can call him and advise him. (He has tried system restore but error msg keep coming up or else the program runs for a while and then computer freezes up). We are both not computer experts but I got rid of the blue screen of death on my computer so I thought maybe, with the help of an expert, I could help him get rid of this nasty virus. Thank so much, Jan

Hello, and welcome to GeekPolice.

Please note the following information about the malware forum:
  • Only Tech Officers, Global Moderators, Administrators, and Malware Advisors are allowed to give advice on removing malware from your computer.
  • From this point on, please do not make any more changes to your computer; such as install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc. - unless advised by the staff I noted above.
  • Please do not ask for help elsewhere (in this site or other sites). Doing so can result in system changes, which may not show up in the logs you post.
  • If you have already asked for help somewhere, please post the link to the topic you were helped.
  • We try our best to reply quickly, but for any reason we do not reply in two days, do one of two things:

Reply to this topic with the word BUMP, or
see [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

  • Lastly, keep in mind that we are volunteers, so you do not have to pay for malware removal. Persist in this topic until its close, and your computer is declared clean.

Please download TDSSKiller from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and save it to your Desktop.
  • Doubleclick TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool
  • Click the Start Scan button
  • After the scan has finished, click the Close button
  • Click the Report button and copy/paste the contents of it into your next reply
Note:It will also create a log in the C:\ directory.

Are you saying the tasks cannot be performed because of no internet?

Please transfer this download from another computer to the infected one, via CD or flash drive, etc.
