AV Security Suite After Effects

Post by mindysue23 on Fri 02 Jul 2010, 9:10 am

I was infected with the AV Security Suite Virus over the weekend on my Windows XP. After much time and frustration, I followed the steps posted on this website and I was able to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware while in Safe Mode and get things returned mostly back to normal (Thank You!). However, the next day when I opened my laptop and tried to go online, it said that my internet service was no longer being operated by Microsoft and it said that my AVG Anti-Virus was turned off. I re-started my computer hoping this would resolve things. When it turned back on my mouse cursor was frozen in the middle of the screen. I cannot move it with my touchpad nor if I plug in a wireless USB mouse. It does not even move in safe mode! With much difficulty navigating around without a mouse, I have been able to run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and it has found no viruses. Last night I was able to update my AVG Anti-Virus and that was successful in turning on all components of the anti-virus, however it also found no viruses. Also, when I turn on my computer, it says that it has found new hardware for the Multimedia Audio Controller, but when I try to install it (even with the computer set-up disk in the drive), it is unsuccessful. The Device Manager shows errors for both the Multimedia Audio Controller and ALPS Pointing Device Driver. I also tried to re-install ALPS Pointing Device Driver with the computer set-up disk and it still is showing the errors. I have tried everything I can find online to get the mouse cursor moving again: FN F9, adjusting mouse settings, System Restore, removing the battery, running the anti-virus programs, etc... Please help me!! I am at my wits end. It is so difficult to navigate around without my mouse to even be able to successfully try to do these things and I have been unable to access my email for days! Thanks for your help!

Hi, Welcome to GeekPolice.net!

My username is Sneakyone and I will be assisting you today.

Please download ComboFix from BleepingComputer.com

Alternate link: GeeksToGo.com

Alternate link: Forospyware.com

Rename ComboFix.exe to commy.exe before you save it to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools A guide to do this can be found here
  • Click Start>Run then copy paste the following command into the Run box & click OK "%userprofile%\desktop\commy.exe" /stepdel
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console

Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the contents of C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
