It says I'm connected to Comcast, but I can't get online?!

Post by Bunnyrocks on Wed 23 Jun 2010, 6:47 am

I received an old laptop for free last week which has been working great. I did not yet sign up with an ISP, but I have been logging on at coffee houses, libraries and other WIFI locations.

I'm at my mom's house and she has Comcast. I logged in via the laptop and it says I'm connected to Comcast with an excellet signal quality. The problem is, I can't browse the Internet! I opened up IE and Firefox and it says I'm not connected to the Internet, but the (Intel wireless icon) says I am still connected to Comcast with a strong signal.

I feel like I'm losing my mind...all I want to do is browse the Internet on my OWN laptop. My mom is using her computer in the other room. What am I doing wrong?

P.S. I'm online now from my mom's room but she wants me to get off so she can get her work done - help!! THANK YOU

Hi,
your mom's computer probably have permission allowed to use Internet and your laptop don't. Are you sure that Comcast is free internet provider ? You should contact them and find out.

Their server recognize your mom's computer as one client with one key which using their connection, but your laptop have different key, so their server can't recognize your laptop, you have to pay or to ask them to enable Internet for you.
