computer slow and quirky

Post by njrh on Wed May 19, 2010 8:42 am

Hi.
I have come back to you again as I became busy and didnt finish what we started. (so sorry)
Computer is slow in start up and shut down. Vista error messages from time to time.
I have lost my camera function as part of our clean up we started last time - we need to reinstall it when we are clean.
I cannot print from my computer as the print spooler is not functioning.
Please can you help?
Here are the malware and hijack this logs

Hi Belahzur,
Sorry for the delay in replying but I never received the email telling me that you had replied. It was only when I looked at the site that I realised that you had replied promptly.

I tried to remove the hijack this lines - it removed two but not the 02 or the 04 lines.

Here is the MBAM log - it detected nothing

Hello.
The email notification is unreliable, don't use it.

Download [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Re: computer slow and quirky

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Hi Back again,
Have watchd it for a couple of days.
Computer is quicker but it still shuts down (crashes?) if left idling for more than 2 -3 hours.
I have to press the on button to get it going again ( get wINDOWS IS RESUMING message) and then it is prevented from connecting to the internet so to get online I have to restart it again.
Shut down is 5 mins - start up is about 30secs to password and then 5 mins after that.
I always get the error vista message of "Windows has blocked some start up programs".
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello.
Slow down, one problem at a time.

Computer is quicker but it still shuts down (crashes?) if left idling for more than 2 -3 hours.
Is the machine overheating at all? that may explain the shutting down problem.

I have to press the on button to get it going again ( get wINDOWS IS RESUMING message) and then it is prevented from connecting to the internet so to get online I have to restart it again.
Is that the power button? that is normal, it's the same for every machine, I have to use the power button when I put my machine into stand by mode.

Not sure about getting the net connection back after being in stand by, my brothers laptop suffers the same thing.

I always get the error vista message of "Windows has blocked some start up programs".
Does it say what programs?

Hi,
Taking your queries
1. is the computer overheating?
I wouldnt have thought so. It is a laptop in a cool room on a flat hard desk surface and never used to do this before a few months ago. The shutting down has become a daily feature ( v iritating one too) which it does by itself ie I have not put it into stand by. I suppose it is possible that somehow I have inadvertantly changed the settings which instructs it to do this but have no idea how to correct this. My husbands lap top does not do this - all we need to do (and with mine previously) is to waggle the mouse and it springs back into life.
2. Yes I have to press the power button. When it shuts down it does so completely - no lights as opposed to "sleeping" mode (with black screen but still a power light on) when I can just waggle the mouse.
3. The error message flashes up on start up but then again periodically while in normal use. It happened just now and i clicked on it but it did not show any programs. Usually I just ignore it and it goes away. But next time on start up I will try to see which programs are affected.
I will revert if I find any programs affected.

Hello.

It is a laptop in a cool room on a flat hard desk surface

It may be a good idea to move the laptop forwards/backwards from the spot it's on, because if it's sat on a wooden desk, the wood will absorb the heat and that doesn't help at all.

It's quite hard to work with laptops for overheating problems with everything being cased in, so using the compressed air method of dust removal isn't as easy like with a Desktop machine.

Anyway, let me know about those program names if you get any.
