Avira Antivir version 10 released

Post by Gabethebabe on 25th March 2010, 9:05 am

Some have already heard the news. And all users of free AVIRA, that have not disabled the Avira ad popups will know about it today: Avira 10 is out. As we are used from Avira, the built-in adware is pretty obnoxious again, here is a screenshot.

But still, good news, as this is an excellent product and the free antivirus with highest detection rates.

Read more here.

The free version continues to be version 9. No idea when the free version 10 will be available. I donīt see any hint on their website. I guess they want us to buy. Well, not me, Iīm afraid Smile

Those nag screens are not adware. People actually know they are going to be installed.

Look here: http://free-av.com/en/notifier/index.html

It is official advertising for Avira only, which means it is not adware.

Understand this, adware is unauthorized advertising bundled in a product that reflects either affiliate deals with another company, or paid advertising from another company.

Although, it is for Avira's gain, the notifiers are for Avira products only, which means their advertising is fully responsible.

On to version 10:

Official CNET download page shows version 10: http://download.cnet.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10322935.html?part=dl-10322935&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=11012914

PCMAG was quick to do a complete review, see here.

It didnīt do as well as I expected. Panda Cloud is the top rated free AV, according to Rubenking.

It was only editor's choice.

Look at the comment on Panda Cloud in Cons: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2355827,00.asp

Not a good sign, usually.

I took a look at IObit Internet Security, hilarious: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2355888,00.asp
