Not sure why you would do that.

I would recommend a dual-boot, if you want to be able to use Vista: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/5166-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-vista.html

Otherwise, you will have to back up your important data, format the partition Windows 7 sits on, and reinstall Windows Vista.

The idea for the Windows 7 RC was to allow people to experiment with it, and highly encouraged them to purchase it.

For those that knew what they were doing, installed the RC in to a VM or as a dual boot.

Here is a good workaround.

  • Create a new partition.
  • Install Vista on that partition.
  • Transfer data from the Windows 7 install partition on to the new Vista partition.
  • Delete the old partition.
  • Expand new Vista partition to incorporate more disk space.

Does this sound like a capable solution?

how do I do these 5 things -

* Create a new partition.
* Install Vista on that partition.
* Transfer data from the Windows 7 install partition on to the new Vista partition.
* Delete the old partition.
* Expand new Vista partition to incorporate more disk space.

Create new partition in Windows 7: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2674-partition-volume-create-new.html
(remember characteristics of it, such as the size, etc) (Also, make the size of the new one at least 10971520 bytes)

Install Vista using new partition: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Install-more-than-one-operating-system-multiboot (skip the warning, go straight to step 1).

To transfer data from one partition to the other, use a CD/DVD and burn the data on it, or use a flash drive. Log in to the Windows 7 install, transfer the data on to the storage device. Then reboot, and log in to the new Vista install, and transfer the data on to that.

Delete the old partition (Win7) by using Vista and extending it: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/95418-disk-management-delete-extend.html

Hope this helps. Smile

What do you mean? You don't have a backup drive or cd burner, or you don't have to back up anything?

Did you try to upgrade Windows 7 to a full version?
