Application cannot be executed. The file wuauclt.exe is infected!

Post by lorddan56 on 6th February 2010, 5:48 pm

Hi, I have windows xp and ever since yesterday I've been getting the message whenever I try to open anything. Also I keep getting this message in the tool bar: Anti-virus software alert, as well as pop in internet explorer. Please help asap. Thank you.

Download [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

It wouldn't even let me open that, or it opens and then shuts down in about a second...

Hello.
Please rename OTL.exe to explorer.exe and see if it will run now.

Are you able to download OTL to the Desktop though? then rename it once it's downloaded?

Okay, can you download OTL from another machine and transfer it over to this infected machine via USB?
