Computer won't start

Post by alilujah on 5th February 2010, 3:05 am

My desktop is messed up, while checking email a Norton message popped up and said it blocked some trojan's. and now whenever I try starting it in any mode, it says system32\config\SysEvent.EVT file is corrupted, check disk utility. Not sure what to do about this. If it won't let me do anything how am I supposed to fix it?

Now, whenever I try to start up the computer it says system32\config\SysEvent.EVT file has been altered or changed.

Okay, put your XP disc in the boot from it.
There will be 3 options, the second option asks you to press "R" to start a repair install.

Do so, and it can repair that damaged file.

We'll see about that once we can get the machine to boot properly.
See here for a quick guide for repair install:
