Windows Xp Installation lost part of my hard drive

Post by mikewilk1968 on 25th January 2010, 9:56 pm

Hello all. I have an HP computer with a 200gb hard drive. That drive has 2 partitions one partition is 160 gb and the other partition is 40gb and holds all my restore information. I re-intalled Windows XP and now I only have 1 hard drive with one partition and it is only 123gb. I am trying to figure out where the additional space went but have been unable to locate it. I tried Partition Dr and that did not find the lost partition and only showed my drive to be 123gb.

Any help you can give would be greatly apprectiated.

Thanks,
MikeWilk

When you re-installed XP did you select the right partition? Or did it just go straight to install?

Actually I was mis-informed about how it was installed. My friend did FDisk from a command prompt then loaded the Windows XP disk. When the installation was final, the hard disk was missing space. That portion of the drive missing was D: and held the restore information. I am not sure if he what partition he did the fdisk on but I am assuming it was only on C:
