log on log off loop

Post by thetiger on 22nd January 2010, 1:49 am

Hello,

I am having a problem with a windows logon / log off loop. I had gotten the Internet Security 2010 problem with my computer. I uses spy bot ot try and remove this from the computer. When it asked to restart the computer, it put me into the loop problem. I was told to put the xp disk into the computer and boot from the cd rom. I did that and it was trying to log on and would flash a blue screen and start all over with the same problem. I tried using some directions that were posted on this website using the recovery console to try and fix the problem. When it told me the computer would restart, it is comes to a black screen and tells me that the file is missing or corrupt. Use the disk and try to repair this issue. I looked at this option but it was asking about particians and i was not sure. Can you please help me to try and get this fixed. I apologize for posting on some one else's topic.

I apologize for double posting. I thought I placed it in the wrong section the first time. This is why I made a second posting of the same thing. Again I apologize. I have read the guide for new users and will try to follow the rules.

Thank you.

When you try to star the computer is is telling me that :

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

I can boot from the CD, but i was not sure which way to go. I would need help. right now I am sitting on a blue screen with the heading of Windows XP Home Edition Setup.

Welcome to Setup.

This portion of the setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer.

To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To Repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R
To quit setuo without installing Windows XP, press F3.

On the bottom tab it say
ENTER = Continue R= Repair F3 = Quit

Sorry for the delay, my ISP is having problems.

Try this for me.

Avira AntiVir Rescue System is a Linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore.

  • Download The Avira AntiVir Rescue System from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
  • Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD.
  • Then please use that CD/DVD with Avira Rescue System to boot your computer.
You'll get a boot option to either boot from hard drive or AntiVir Rescue System.

Press the number 2 on your keyboard to boot into AntiVir Rescue System.

Please wait until drivers are loaded and Main menu shows. Then please select the second option “Scan your system with AntiVir” and hit Enter.

Under Configuration, please select Scan all files, Try to repair infected files and Rename files if they cannot be removed?.

Then please start the scan.

The Avira AntiVir Rescue System wil now

  • repair a damaged system,
  • rescue data,
  • scan the system for virus infections.

Hello,
I was able to make a disc of Avira, but now when I try to put the disc in the computer and boot from the CD it brings me back to the black page that says Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair

Hmm, I wonder why it isn't starting the repair.

Do you have anything to lose? we could try a format instead?

this is actually my father's computer. and he has several pictures and other stuff that he doesn't want to lose. Is there any way to try a repair or replace the file that is showing missing or corrupt and try to then run the Avira?

I'm not sure why it's not letting it use the repair install. The installation is number 1.

the repair install fom the Avira Disk or from the windows XP disk that I have?

I have gotten it to come up with the XP disc to a blue screen saying
Windows XP Home Edition Setup

Welsome to setup.
This portion of the setup program prepares Micrposoft windows XP to run on your computer.

-TO set up windows XP now press enter.
-To Repair a windows Xp installation using recovery console, press r.
-To quit setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

If I press enter to set up Windows, it asks me about partitions, and if i press the r it brings me to the black screen we were discussing before. Which do you suggest at this point.

Thanks again and sorry for all of the trouble.

Setting up Windows will overwrite the current partition and basically format the machine.
Pressing R asks for which installations you want to logon to?
