Antivirus Live almost fixed, but....

Post by jon. on Tue Jan 12, 2010 5:20 pm

Hey, so I came into contact with AntiVirus Live, and thanks to the "How to Remove Antivirus Live" thread, I've been able to get rid of most of it. When my computer is offline it runs perfectly fine, and I have no problems whatsoever. However, as soon as I connect to the internet my whole computer slows down as it appears that a bunch of outgoing spam emails are being generated by computer. Thankfully, Norton appears to be blocking these outgoing emails, but as long as my computer is online, the emails keep generating. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Please download the current version of HijackThis from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

  • Double click and run the installer.
  • It will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe
  • After installing, you should get the user agreement, press accept and Hijack This will run.
  • Select Do a system scan and save a log file. This will open a notepad file of everything Hijack This found, copy and paste it back here.

Hello.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5555
    O1 - Hosts: ::1 localhost
    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.127.226 winguard2009.microsoft.com
    O1 - Hosts: 91.212.127.226 winguard-2009.com
O1 - Hosts: 91.212.127.226 [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
    O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: C:\WINDOWS\system32\bqmcfk9.dll - - (no file)

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.

Remove the Proxy setting in Internet Explorer and/or in FireFox.

    In Internet Explorer
  1. Tools Menu -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab ->Lan Settings > uncheck "use a proxy server" or reconfigure the Proxy server again in case you have set it previously.

    In Firefox
  1. Tools Menu -> Options... -> Advanced Tab -> Network Tab -> "Settings" under Connection > Choose "No Proxy"
  2. Click the apply button and restart that computer in normal mode.

Please download and run this tool.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Post the contents of the MBAM Log.

Ok I did all of that and it appeared to all go smoothly. However, I just restarted my computer and it now freezes upon start-up, right before I am prompted to enter my password. I tried going into safe mode, but the result is the same.

I've tried booting up normally and in safe mode again in the past couple hours and I have no idea what to do. It'll bring me to a screen similar to the one below, except without all the "administrator" , "to begin...", "after you log on...", "turn off computer" stuff. It's just a screen with that background and the XP logo, and just stops loading.

Lets try using this.

Avira AntiVir Rescue System is a Linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore.

  • Download The Avira AntiVir Rescue System from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
  • Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD.
  • Then please use that CD/DVD with Avira Rescue System to boot your computer.
You'll get a boot option to either boot from hard drive or AntiVir Rescue System.

Press the number 2 on your keyboard to boot into AntiVir Rescue System.

Please wait until drivers are loaded and Main menu shows. Then please select the second option “Scan your system with AntiVir” and hit Enter.

Under Configuration, please select Scan all files, Try to repair infected files and Rename files if they cannot be removed?.

Then please start the scan.

The Avira AntiVir Rescue System wil now

  • repair a damaged system,
  • rescue data,
  • scan the system for virus infections.

As Avira is loading up, it simply gets stuck on "Mounting devices" (it also reads "/dev/fd0" beneath it). It doesn't freeze or anything like that, it just stays at 0%.

Ok, I figured out 2 problems I was having with Avira:

1) It wasn't high enough on the priority list when booting up, so I had to make it top priority; and

2) The reason it was getting stuck on "mounting devices" was because a floppy drive was enabled on my computer, even though I don't have one. So I just disabled it and Avira loaded fine.

So I did the scan and Avira renamed 2 files, and when I tried starting my computer up I still got the same blue screen with the XP logo. Is there anything else that can be done??

The original XP disc did not come with my computer. I bought my computer from a place in Canada called MDG ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] which came with their own recovery disc. My only fear that is that if I run it, I'll be losing everything on my computer, right?

Not too sure, the recovery disc will only replace Windows files hopefully.

Hey, it has been a while since I have been here! Anyways, I ran the recovery disc and Windows successfully loads and I did not lose any files. However, I still have the problem with the outgoing e-mails being sent out whenever I connect to the internet (see post #1).

I ran HijackThis just a little while ago and here is the log:

Hello.
Sorry, wrong instructions.

  • Open HijackThis
  • Choose "Do a system scan only"
  • Check the boxes in front of these lines:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FBFD382A-AC6E-4EB7-8944-F97D358B378D} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqRIXPFV.dll
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BitTorrent DNA] "C:\Program Files\DNA\btdna.exe"
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: rqRIXPFV - rqRIXPFV.dll (file missing)

  • Press "Fix Checked"
  • Close Hijack This.
