Monitor turns off

Post by dreitz on 28th December 2009, 12:02 am

I have a monitor that turns off after a few seconds. If I turn the monitor off and back on, it displays the desktop for a few seconds, but turns back off.

I tried booting into safe mode, but it turns off after a few seconds...even when reviewing the BIOS settings.

It's the only digital monitor I have, so I can't try another monitor on that computer.

I tried my analog monitor on it, but it gets no signal. I'm assuming I need to change the video card settings which I can't do because I can't see what I'm doing.

I opened the case and verified all the fans are running...processor, video card, power supply and case fan.

Any suggestions?

Hi, you have Graphic Card problem. Check some PC Shop for help, or buy new one.

Nazzgull is right. You have a graphics card problem.

If you have integrated graphics, your cpu has a problem that is difficult to determine.
Head to a repair shop to have it fixed.

However, if you are using dedicated graphics, you will only need to replace the graphics card.

In any case, if you are not sure, go to a repair shop. Smile

Sigh....seems I didn't leave the monitor on long enough to shutdown on my other computer, so it's actually the monitor that shuts down... Just bad monitor or can it be "reset" somehow?

Heya, that's not a problem. Monitor is okay, try to plug-in in some other computer, or visit your friend. I'm pretty sure it's graphic card.

I plugged the monitor into another computer. It seemed to work. I just didn't leave it in long enough. I bought a new video card and the monitor still turns off.
